Houston was named for Sam Houston, one of the early leaders of Texas. It was built near the San Jacinto battlefield--the spot that the Texas army, led by Houston, defeated the Mexican army under the leadership of Gen. Santa Ana in April 1836. The victory here gave Texas its independence.

Located out in the Permian Basin area of West Texas, Loving County was one of the last counties created in Texas. Most of the land use has been in ranching and oil. The one thing Loving County does have is miles and miles of nothing.

There is just a slight bulge in the Sabine River in Newton County. From the westernmost bulge in El Paso County to the easternmost bulge in Newton County is a distance of 773 miles.

Answer: Being the geographic center of Texas

Just north of the small settlement of Mercury is the geographical center of Texas, the town of Brady. Brady is also the county seat of McCulloch County.
5. What county is the biggest in Texas in terms of area?

Answer: Brewster

Located out in West Texas, Brewster County contains Big Bend National Park. The total land area is 6,193 sq miles, which is just a little less than the combined areas of Connecticut and Rhode Island. Alpine is the county seat.

Rockwall's area in square miles is 148.70, which is really small when compared with Brewster County's area of 6,192.78 miles. Rockwall County is on the eastern border of Dallas County. Rockwall is also the name of the county seat.
