Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the real name of the man Alice Liddel befriended when she was a young girl, influencing the author to write 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland'?

Answer: Charles Dodgson

In 'The Looking Glass Wars' the reader can see how Alice Liddel befriended Lewis Carroll (aka Charles Dodgson) and gave him the idea for 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' when she spoke of her previous life when she lived as a princess in Wonderland.

It then shows how she thought he would write an accurate account of what had really happened to her but that, when she realised how he had changed the details of her previous life, she got upset as she thought it would make her stories seem even more ridiculous.

In the story, she didn't speak to him again until her eighteenth birthday.
2. In the 'Looking Glass Wars', Alice Liddel was the main character, but what was her real name whenever she was in (or associated with) Wonderland?

Answer: Alyss Heart

Frank Beddor was rather clever with his novel as, whenever Alice was in Wonderland or still believed in Wonderland, she would be referred to as Alyss. Her name in Wonderland was 'Princess Alyss Heart'. The novel shows how her teacher in our world did not like her spelling her name A-L-Y-S-S as she thought it was incorrect.
3. Everybody knows the Mad Hatter, but in 'The Looking Glass Wars' what was his real name?

Answer: Hatter Madigan

Hatter Madigan is an experienced member of the Wonderland millinery and his hat, bracelets and backpack can turn into blades so that he can protect himself and others. While escaping Wonderland with the princess he lost her and it took him 13 years to find her again!
4. What was the name of the portal Alice and Hatter went through in Wonderland that allowed Wonderlanders to travel to our world?

Answer: the pool of tears

The pool of tears was given its name because it was believed that when people entered it, they never returned. Because of this, their loved ones would sit by the pool waiting for them and would cry into it. To get back to Wonderland, it was said that the Wonderlander needed to look for a puddle where a puddle shouldn't be.
5. Back to real life Alice Liddel. She had two sisters - what were their names?

Answer: Edith and Lorina

Edith was three years older than Alice while Lorina was two years younger. They would also go for trips with Lewis Carroll but, obviously, it was Alice he favoured most.
6. Which of Queen Victoria's sons did Alice Liddel almost marry in 'The Looking Glass Wars'?

Answer: Leopold

Prince Leopold was supposed to marry Alice Liddel towards the end of part two in the book but her wedding was interrupted by The Cat- one of her aunt Redd's top assassins. Luckily, Dodge Anders is there to save her, but she must leave Leopold (whom she felt she did not love anyway) and return to Wonderland.
7. A key character is General Doppelgänger; what is so special about him?

Answer: He can split into two people

General Doppelgänger is able to split into two people- one named General Doppel and one named General Gänger. These two generals can then also split into two!
8. In 'The Looking Glass Wars' who was Alice truly in love with?

Answer: Dodge Anders

Although in real life, Alice Liddell married Reginald Hargreaves, in the novel, she was in love with Dodge Anders, whom she had been friends with for her entire life. He was also in love with her but knew that she would not be allowed to marry a 'commoner', so he tried to keep his distance.
9. What was the name of Alice Liddel's real parents?

Answer: Henry and Lorina

In the book, Alice Heart's mother was named Queen Genevieve and her father King Nolan, but both were murdered by her Aunt Redd, who felt that she was the rightful Queen. In real life, Henry and Lorina Liddell were Alice Lidell's parents.
10. Finally, what is the name of the sequel to 'The Looking Glass Wars'?

Answer: Seeing Redd

"Seeing Redd" was published on the 21 August 2007 and has 384 pages! What will happen to Alyss Heart next?
