Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of Scar's very close friends, who assisted in finding Jamie, died?

Answer: Finn

Even though the Old Ones had been defeated for the time being, there were still many injured people lying around, to each and every one of which the Five administered. Unfortunately, Finn had been gravely injured in battle, and died, with Scar at his side.
2. A man called Joseph of Cordoba, who had lived centuries before Jamie, drew a map in Jamie's world that showed all twenty-five doorways. What was this man's profession?

Answer: He was a monk

Matt explained this to Jamie as they sat beside a river, the very same river that saved the Matt from Jamie's world in the first book, "Raven's Gate." Matt explained to Jamie that two gates existed in both of their worlds (with the first being in Lesser Malling that Matt destroyed in "Raven's Gate," and the second being the Nazca lines in Peru, which the Old Ones managed to break through in "Evil Star"). Matt also told Jamie that there were also twenty-five doorways, which were basically shortcuts to places that might have been thousands of miles away. All of them had become sacred places, due to very fact that the doors were actually there. We saw an example of one of these doorways in "Evil Star," and also see one later in "Nightrise."
3. What Indian tribe was Joe Feather a part of?

Answer: Washoe

After Jamie returned to the present time, he woke up with Joe Feather by his side. Jamie was worried that the authorities would still be looking for him, but Joe Feather assured him that they were safe, by saying that he was a member of the Washoe tribe, and that they knew how to hide. Incidentally, Jamie and Scott were also people of the Washoe tribe.
4. What was the Navajo name for the Old Ones?

Answer: Anasazi

While Jamie was still talking to Joe Feather, he asked Joe if he knew of the Old Ones. Joe replied that he did, but that was not what the Washoe tribe called them. He didn't say what the Washoe name for the Old Ones was, but he did mention that the Navajo name for the Old Ones was "Anasazi," meaning "ancient enemy."
5. What "house" number was present on the mobile home that Alicia had rented for a month?

Answer: 23

Jamie was finally well enough to travel, and Daniel couldn't wait to see his mother. The two of them drove back to Reno in a minibus with some of Joe's friends from the Washoe tribe. Alicia was staying in a mobile home called Paso Tiempo, which was near the airport. Alicia had rented number 23 for a month, while she waited for Jamie and Daniel to return.
6. Senator John Trelawney was celebrating his birthday, and returning to the town in which he was born, where the townsfolk were holding a parade for him. What was the name of the town?

Answer: Auburn

While Jamie was staying in the trailer park with Alicia and Daniel, he told her that he hadn't found Scott. Alicia told him that she would stick with him until she did. She also told him that the Feds had taken over Silent Creek, and that all the kidnapped children there had been sent home, and that this had all been Trelawney's doing. Alicia explained to Jamie that Trelawney wished to speak with him, which they would do in Los Angeles, so that Trelawney would be close to Auburn, where he was born, and where the townsfolk were holding a parade in honour of his birthday.
7. We've established that it was Senator John Trelawney's birthday. What special birthday was this?

Answer: His fiftieth birthday

As explained in the previous question's "Interesting Info" section, John Trelawney was celebrating his birthday in Auburn. And it happened to be his 50th birthday.
8. What was Senator John Trelawney's wife's name?

Answer: Grace

In the chapter "Native Son," just after Jamie and Alicia decide that they need to go to Auburn, there is a description of the town. During the description, it mentions the mayor's wife sitting next to Grace Trelawney, John's wife, with her two sons.
9. What was the name of the employee of Nightrise who accompanied Scott to Auburn, in the hopes that he would use his power to kill Senator John Trelawney?

Answer: Susan Mortlake

The Nightrise Corporation had reserved seats for Susan Mortlake and Scott at Senator Trelawney's birthday parade. Susan Mortlake was described in the book as a "middle-aged woman with short grey hair, a thin neck and glasses that were slightly too big for her face."
10. How did Scott, under the order of the Nightrise Corporation, try to kill Senator John Trelawney?

Answer: He used his mind control techniques to "order" Warren Cornfield to do it

As had been displayed earlier in the book, Jamie and Scott both had the ability to break in to other people's minds, and give them certain "orders," a gift which could be both a blessing and a curse. The Nightrise Corporation had obviously tortured Scott to the point that he would do whatever they wanted him to. Because the Nightrise Corporation was backing Charles Baker in the race for the presidency of the USA, and Trelawney was winning, they knew they had to kill him; the best way to do that would be if one of his own men killed him. So they got Scott to order Warren Cornfield, the head of Trelawney's security, to shoot his boss.
11. What colour was Nathalie Johnson's car?

Answer: Blue

In all of the confusion just after Jamie had been forced to order Warren Cornfield to shoot Susan Mortlake, Nathalie Johnson, a friend of Senator Trelawney's (whom we've met in previous books as a member of the Nexus) came to Jamie's aid. She managed to get Jamie, Scott, Alicia and Daniel out of Auburn.

She drove a blue Mercedes, but she handed over the keys to Alicia, giving them a chance to escape.
12. What form did the doorway the Jamie and Scott passed through take?

Answer: It was in the form of a cave

Unfortunately, there was a police roadblock, that prevented Jamie and Scott from getting to the airport. Alicia had turned the car around, and that was when Jamie finally heard Scott speaking to him telepathically again. He had told him to stop the car. Jamie shouted at Alicia to do this, which she did. One of the doorways that Matt had told Jamie about was through a cave near Lake Tahoe, which Jamie and Scott went through.
13. What country did Jamie and Scott travel through the doorway to?

Answer: Peru

More specifically, Jamie and Scott were "transported" to the city of Cuzco in Peru. They came out through a church storeroom. A priest had looked at them very confused, because as far as he knew, that specific door had always been locked, and was nothing more than a storeroom.

Cuzco, Peru, was also the last place that we saw Matt Freeman and Pedro in "Evil Star."
14. At the last minute, how much money had Alicia pressed into Jamie's hand?

Answer: $100

Just before Jamie and Scott had run through the cave doorway, Alicia had given Jamie $100. This was what enabled him and Scott to pay for a hotel overnight, and to buy two bus tickets to a place called Nazca, where Matt and Pedro were staying.
15. In the book, do we actually see Jamie and Scott meet Matt and Pedro?

Answer: Yes

Yes, but only very briefly. Jamie and Scott arrived in Nazca after a very long bus drive, and then took a taxi to Joanna Chambers's house. It was there that they finally came to meet Matt Freeman and Pedro. Four of the Five had finally come together.
16. Where do we first meet Scarlett Adams?

Answer: At Heathrow Airport

"Nightrise" doesn't end with Jamie and Scott meeting Matt and Pedro. The last chapter focuses on Scarlett Adams, who is the last of the Five. She was sitting in the Business Class lounge at Heathrow Airport.
17. What was the name of Scarlett's school?

Answer: St. Genevieve's

Scarlett went to St. Genevieve's, which was an expensive private school located in Dulwich. They had a boarding school, but she was a day student. Her parents owned a house five minutes away from the school, which she stayed at with a housekeeper during term time.
18. In the last chapter, we learn who had become the new President of the United States. Who was it?

Answer: Charles Baker

While Scarlett was sitting in the Business Class lounge, a large plasma TV screen was broadcasting news about the recent elections. Charles Baker had become the new President of the United States of America. The reason that there was a lot on the news was because everyone had been sure that Senator Trelawney would win the election. Also, the Nightrise Corporation had been involved in counting the votes- and they had backed Charles Baker all the way, so an official investigation was being conducted into the election.
19. According to the news report, about how many votes in a US election were counted by machines?

Answer: Nearly 70%

As Scarlett was watching the news report, the reporter said that nearly 70% of all the votes were counted by machine- and that the Nightrise Corporation had very strong links with no fewer than three of the main vote-counting companies.
20. Did Scarlett's father work for the Nightrise Corporation?

Answer: Yes

Scarlett had no interest in politics, and had been about to stop watching the news broadcast, when one word had caught her attention. Nightrise. Her father worked as a lawyer for the Nightrise Corporation in Hong Kong. Incidentally, that was where Scarlett was travelling to on a British Airways flight, which her father had requested at the last minute.
