Answer: The Space Legion

The Space Legion is where all the rejects of the galaxy ends up. They will take anyone no questions asked, and give you a clean slate to work from. Many legionnaires joined to escape the law.

Answer: Scaramouche

When they join the Legion every legionnaire chooses a new "Legion Name". This is done to help hide their pasts. Though Phule went by Jester for ninety percent of the book his first name was Scaramouche.

According to Colonel Battleax, Scaramouche is a stock character from old Italian comedy, a buffoon or fool. Thus making it a clever play on the fact that Phule's name is pronounced "fool".

Answer: He is being court-martialed

He is being court-martialed for convincing an officer in the Starfleet to strafe what he thinks is a enemy formation, but what is in fact peace negotiations.

While there are some that would have liked to execute Phule for this offence, they never get their wish.

On another note, he ends up being court-martialed at the end of the book as well.

Answer: Beeker

Beeker is, in his own words, "a gentleman's gentleman, or what would be referred to in military circles as a batman." In other words Beeker is a butler. Though he is rich enough to buy an asteroid.

Olie is the designer that Phule hires to redesign the company's new uniforms.

Bombest is the manager of the best hotel on Haskin's Planet.

Armstrong is a lieutenant in Phule's company.

Answer: Port-A-Brain.

The Port-A-Brain was designed to be the ultimate pocket computer, the only problem was that you could buy a small corporation for less money. Due to this fact there are less than a dozen in actual use. Phule owned two.

Answer: Omega Company

Due to the fact that the Space Legion accepts all applicants, they end up with a lot of people that do not fit in with the military life. After a time they all seem to end up in one company, called an Omega Company.

Answer: Haskin's Planet

They are assigned to Haskin's Planet to guard the miners that work in the swamp. Due to environmental concerns, the miners are only allowed to work once a week in the swamps, making the guard duty very easy.

Answer: Red Eagles

The Red Eagles are a elite unit in the regular army. They are sent to beat the Space Legion's company, with the plans of pulling out the unit and sending in a different unit at a later date. This fails, and the two units tie in the competition.

Answer: Zenobians

Zenobians are lizard like aliens that live in swamp areas of their home planet. Phule makes first contact with them when a Zenobian ships makes an emergency landing in the swamp on Haskin's Planet.

Answer: Black

The Space legion uses Black for the uniforms of its enlisted personnel, and its officers. This is not done for looks or camouflage value. It is done because the space legion is strapped for cash, and black dye colors the original colors of the second hand uniforms that they use.
