Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. During the hurricane, the Titanic was sheering all over the place.

Answer: Yes

Hurricane Amanda was now upon the salvage team and the two tugs that were towing her. Ensign Kelly on the Samuel R. Wallace had said to her captain that the tow line was going crazy. Butera was wondering what was happening, but could not see the Titanic because of the driving rain from the hurricane.

However, Butera realized what could happen next and his fears were beginning to come true. He called the Thomas J. Morse (the other tug) and told her captain to order his engines full-speed ahead.

The Titanic's bow came back into view and nearly crushed the stern of the Wallace. It missed the Wallace by three feet or less and sent a huge wave which enveloped the whole tug.
2. While being questioned, Dana stated that she last remembered seeing a pair of sharp-toed cowboy boots. Who did Pitt tell Sandecker they belonged to?

Answer: Ben Drummer

When Dana came to, she realized she was on board the Titanic and was amazed. Pitt and Sandecker decided she was well enough to interrogate and they proceeded to ask her how she became to be on the helicopter. After some questions, Pitt asked her what she remembered before she blacked out.

She stated she remembered seeing a set of sharp-toed cowboy boots. Pitt told Sandecker later that they belonged to Ben Drummer. Pitt knew this when he and Giordino searched every cabin aboard the Sappho I in an attempt to find Henry Monk's killer.
3. What was Dana looking for in the helicopter when she blacked out?

Answer: makeup kit

Dana stated that she was looking for her makeup kit which was lodged in the seat of the helicopter. She had dropped it on the way from the El Hambra which was the support tender. The helicopter was aboard the Capricorn. She figured she fainted and hit her head on the floor or seat on the way down.
4. What happened to the support vessel Juneau?

Answer: it responded to a distress signal

The Juneau, which was the Navy missile cruiser, had to respond to the distress signal from the made up freighter called the Laguna Star. This was part of Prevlov's plan to lure all ships and tugs away from the Titanic so that he could board and take control of her and everyone on it. Because the tugs could not leave the Titanic, the Juneau was the only other surface craft in the area to respond. Part of the plan was to have the distress signal sent from a Russian submarine. Once submerged, the signal would no longer be sent out and the Juneau would've assumed the Laguna Star had sunk.

The Juneau did respond to the Titanic by saying "Good luck to to the Titanic." When all surface craft had left, Sandecker stated that any pirate was now able to take control of the Titanic.
5. In whose office did Donner and Seagram meet the President?

Answer: Admiral Kemper's

While waiting on word from the Titanic salvage crew, Donner and Seagram were in Admiral Joseph Kemper's office which was located in the Pentagon. The President joined them after a while to sit and wait for any words to come in about the towing. At this point, they knew that the tugs were in the process of towing the derelict to New York but were still too far out to be safe. They were now in the middle of the hurricane.
6. Kemper received two messages. One message said that Ashley Fleming was lost overboard and was presumed dead.

Answer: False

One of Kemper's messengers came in with two urgent messages. The first one was that Dana Seagram was presumed to be lost overboard and killed. This, of course, shocked Seagram; he slumped to the couch in thought of his dead wife. What he did not know was that Dana was alive and well on the Titanic. Pitt ordered Gunn not to send Sandecker's telegram until everything was cleared up. After all, the salvage crew had two Russian spies on board to take care of.
7. According to the second message, what happened with the towing cable hooked to the Titanic?

Answer: it snapped

The second message was that the towing cable on the Titanic had snapped and that the ship was now adrift in the middle of the storm. Prevlov had one of the operatives cut holes in the bottom of the Titanic to cause it to sheer all over the place to slow the effort down. Prevlov's plan was to be aboard the Titanic during the eye of the hurricane and therefore had the towing cable sliced through.
8. What did Butera say happened with the towing cable?

Answer: it was cut through

Butera was in shock. He could not believe the towing cable snapped the way it did. He asked that the cable be brought up so they could take a look at it. As Butera looked at the cable, he noticed that it was burned through. Someone used a cutting torch to cut off the cable to allow the Titanic to float on her own in the hurricane.
9. Did Pitt find what he was looking for in the helicopter?

Answer: Yes

Pitt found Dana's makeup kit with the strap caught in the seat. As he went to retrieve it, he noticed that the life raft cover was there, but the life raft was gone. He didn't have time to mull over his findings. Disaster was about to strike.
10. What happened to the helicopter while Pitt was doing his search of it?

Answer: it was blown off the ship and into the sea

The Titanic was slammed with a wave which keeled the ship over on her side. As it did so, the helicopter's moorings broke and the chopper blew off the roof of the first class lounge, across the boat deck and over the side of the ship. Pitt was in the chopper when it was blown over the side.
11. What group of people boarded the ship during the eye of the hurricane?

Answer: Prevlov's men

As everyone was gathered in the gymnasium, Prevlov's men stormed in and took control. One of them was recognized by Woodsen who attacked the one guard. However, the guard stabbed Woodsen and killed him. Sturgess tried to attack another guard, but was hit in the head with a rifle. Prevlov came strolling in after the shooting and fighting stopped, and took over the ship.
12. Admiral Sandecker was killed by one of the intruders at the start of the invasion.

Answer: False

Omar Woodsen was the first one to be killed. He was at the radio when he noticed one of the Russian guards. He recognized him and leaped at him. However, the guard had a knife and shoved it through Woodsen's heart, killing him. Other injuries included Giordino getting shot in the hand when he went to smack a wrench into one of the guard's heads.
13. Where did Prevlov say he had set up his operations room?

Answer: dining saloon on D Deck

Since the salvage team's radio was destroyed by Prevlov and his boarding crew, Prevlov stated he had set up his operations room in the main dining room on D Deck. He was going to hold the crew hostage until the storm subsided and then send them afloat on a raft. At least he was going to make it seem like that. Prevlov was currently holding the salvage team and Dana hostage.
14. What was the name of the aircraft carrier which would send planes to look for the Titanic after the hurricane passed?

Answer: Beecher's Island

Kemper dispatched the Beecher's Island for the search area. As soon as the storm passed, he ordered search planes off of the carrier to see if they could relocate it. The President and everyone else in the office were pessimistic that the Titanic would ever be found. And now since the Russians boarded the ship, it was even more serious.
15. Did Kemper seem confident in relocating the Titanic?

Answer: Yes

Kemper was optimistic that the Navy would find the Titanic in time. In fact, he even told the President that the ship would be back in tow by noon. The President was not so sure and stated that the Russians may be on board right now. Kemper said that that was impossible due to the storm's fury. The President said that the hurricane was thought to be impossible at one time as well.
16. Who walked into the room after Dana's show of defiance?

Answer: Pitt

Prevlov had everyone captive in the dining saloon. He was thinking of ways to get Spencer and his crew back at the business of running the pumps so that the Titanic would be towed to Russia. He had one of the guards grab Dana and ordered her to strip her clothes. Dana decided to use herself against the Russians and make a defiant show out of the mess to get the guards' attention.

It nearly worked but Prevlov was now upset that his show was being controlled. As he ordered one of the guards to approach Dana with a knife, Dirk Pitt, thought to have been tossed overboard in the crashed helicopter, stepped into the room and surprised everyone.

The helicopter actually got wedged in the railing of the promenade deck below and saved Pitt from certain death.
17. Who was revealed to be the agent named "Gold"?

Answer: Ben Drummer

Pitt started his "folklore" with the audience that he now had. He explained how he came upon Monk's killer on the sub and pointed out Ben Drummer as the killer. When Drummer admitted to it, Pitt asked him which code name he fell under. Drummer replied that it was Gold.
18. Who was revealed to be the agent named "Silver"?

Answer: Sam Merker

After Drummer admitted that he was called Gold, Pitt explained that his brother was called Silver. Drummer was shocked as to how Pitt knew all this information. Pitt also explained that the two were twins, but not identical. They almost got away with it until the disaster involving the Deep Fathom. Drummer's "brother" was on board the "Deep Fathom" and Drummer was the only one who became unglued at the disaster. Through process of elimination, Pitt stated who it was. Drummer's brother was Sam Merker. Merker was the one ordered by Prevlov to hurt Dana and he was also the one who stabbed and killed Woodsen.
19. Did Busky have his chance to shoot Dana as Prevlov ordered?

Answer: No

After Pitt's story, Prevlov was angry. He ordered one his guards, Busky, to shoot Dana. Busky knew enough Russian to know numbers and Prevlov stated to shoot Dana in the left arm when he got to five. Busky never had the chance. The Navy Seals gunned Busky down when Prevlov got to four.
20. Who was in charge of the American Navy Seals boarding party?

Answer: Lt. Fergus

The Navy Seals boarding party was commanded by Lt. Fergus. Fergus and his crew were brought aboard the Titanic before the hurricane hit and were being stored in the Chief Steward's cabin on C deck. Fergus stated to Sandecker that he really only probably needed five, but Kemper decided on more just in case. Spencer's crew was now back at work, but this time commanded by Fergus' team instead of Prevlov. They guided Prevlov, Drummer and Merker to a secluded cabin for storage until they got to New York
