Amelia had a fascination for pyramids, which was revealed in the first book in the series, "Crocodile in the Sandbank". Her wish to excavate a pyramid was finally fulfilled in "Lion in the Valley".
2. What is the first name of Amelia's husband?

Answer: Radcliffe

Amelia thinks Radcliffe is an extremely disagreeable name, which is why she prefers to call him Emerson. The Egyptians, however, referred to him by the more colorful name "Father of Curses".
3. "The Curse of the Pharoahs" is the first Peabody book.

Answer: False

"The Curse of the Pharoahs" is the third Peabody book. Here, Amelia and Emerson are called upon by the recently widowed Lady Baskerville to excavate a royal tomb.
4. Amelia's son was named after her brother-in-law.

Answer: True

Walter Peabody Emerson was named after Radcliffe's brother Walter. However, the younger Walter was more commonly known by his nickname, Ramses.
5. What is the last word in the Peabody title: "Lord of the ______"?

Answer: Silent

"The Lord of the Rings" is a fantasy by J.R.R. Tolkien, "Lord of the Far Island" is a romantic suspense novel by Victoria Holt, and "Lord of the Flies" by William Golding is about boys stranded on a deserted island.
6. Who was Amelia's foster child?

Answer: Nefret

Nefret was first introduced in "The Last Camel Died at Noon". She became Amelia's ward and later Ramses' wife. Her name, Nefret, was common in Ancient Egypt and means "pretty" or "the beautiful one".
7. What did Amelia always carry with her?

Answer: parasol

Amelia had several parasols, from silk ones for formal occasions to an everyday one with a steel rod. Apart from providing shade, the parasols proved to be quite handy for parting a crowd or serving as a weapon. She also had a special belt with hooks to hold her knife and other necessities.
8. What name was Amelia's nemesis known as?

Answer: The Master Criminal

The Master Criminal was also called Sethos. However, he very well might have been known as "The Master of Disguise" because he was quite clever in changing his looks. Like his half-brother, Emerson, Sethos fell in love with Amelia.
9. What does Amelia's son receive for being a pacifist in the beginning of "He Shall Thunder in the Sky"?

Answer: white feathers

"He Shall Thunder in the Sky" takes place during World War I. White feathers are traditionally a symbol of cowardice, and Ramses received them because he was viewed a pacifist who dodged military duty. Only a few people knew that Ramses served as a spy for the British. His fluency in Arabic and Turkish allowed him to infiltrate a nationalist revolutionary organization.
10. Elizabeth Peters, the author of the Amelia Peabody books, also wrote under which pen name?

Answer: Barbara Michaels

Elizabeth Peters a.k.a. Barbara Michaels is really Barbara Mertz, who holds a Ph.D. in Egyptology. Apart from the Amelia Peabody mysteries, Peters also wrote the Vicky Bliss books. In 1998, she was named Grandmaster by the Mystery Writers of America.
