Answer: So it could not be used to strike at the world tree Yggdrasil.

Thor was the Norse thunder god and his preferred weapon was a hammer.

Elfheugh was one of the mightiest fortresses held by the trolls, never taken by force of arms. But the trolls had forgotten that not all those inside its walls had the trolls' interests at heart.
