Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The film "The Flight of Dragons" (1982) is based on a culmination of two novels, but who wrote them?

Answer: Peter Dickinson and Gordon Dickson

The original novels that the film is based upon are "The Flight of the Dragons" written by Peter Dickinson, and "The Dragon and the George" written by Gordon Dickson.
Peter Dickinson is an English writer who curently lives in Hampshire UK. He is a prolific childrens writer, with over 50 titles to his name, having won two Carnegie Medals and Whitbread Children's Awards. Gordon Dickson, a Canadian, who wrote mostly fantasy and science fiction books, lived from 1923-2001. He was most famous for penning the "Dorsai" series.
2. Who provides the voice for the evil, red wizard, Ommadon?

Answer: James Earl Jones

Ommadon is the evil wizard, who is one of the four magical brothers who preside over the realm of magic. In the movie, he is not in agreement with his brothers, that the last of their dying magic should be used to save everything that is magical, and does his very best to put a stop to their plans.

James Earl Jones, who is of course the voice of Darth Vader from the "Star Wars" films, provides the voice for this baddie. Renowned for his voice, Jones is also the voice for the character Mufasa, from "The Lion King" (1994).

Jeremy Irons is the voice of Scar, also from "The Lion King" (1994), Harry Morgan, and John Ritter provide the voices for Carolinus, and Peter Dickenson respectively from "Flight of Dragons".
3. What is the name of the un-dead wolf that kills the Queen Sand Merk?

Answer: Arak

Victor Buono provides the voice for this character. Arak is given the task of murdering the Queen, so as to stop the noise that her minions make that is driving the members of the quest mad. In return the blue wizard, Solarius, gives him another chance at living.
4. What type of creature must Peter and Smrgol fight, in order to rescue Sir Orin and Danielle?

Answer: Ogre

The Ogre kidnaps the pair while they rest at the inn. Smrgol ultimately defeats the towering Ogre, but in doing so, he is so worn out from the fight that the older dragon's heart stops and he sadly dies.
5. Why does Giles of the Treetops and his gang of Elves attack the group?

Answer: The Elves are suspicious of the Dragons.

When the Elves see the dragons they are scared, and try to attack the group. It is only when Danielle, an Archer who lives among the Elves, recognises the famous Knight, Sir Orin, that she puts a stop to the attack and saves the group from the onslaught.
6. What is the name of the only female dragon featured in the film?

Answer: Lunarian

Lunarian is the personal dragon of Lo Tae Shao, the Golden Wizard, one of the Magic Brothers. It is her job to carry Lo Tae Shao everywhere that he requests. More than a pet, she is his silent, but faithful servant.

Bryaugh is the evil dragon that belongs to Ommadon, and Gorbash belongs to Carolinus, the green Wizard, and Melisande is his foster daughter.
7. What is the colour of the crown that Ommadon wears?

Answer: Red

It is the crown that is the source of all of Ommadon's power. This is what Peter and the rest of the group must capture in order to stop Ommadon's evil plan.
8. Is it true that Peter falls in love with Danielle?

Answer: No

Peter falls in love with Melisande, the foster daughter of Carolinus, the good green wizard. During the film, she uses her special psychic talent to watch over the members of the quest for Carolinus. At the end of the film, while Peter is standing in the pawn shop, Melisande walks in holding Ommadon's crown. She has chosen a life with Peter, rather than a life of magic.

Danielle is in love with Sir Orin Neville Smythe, and he with her. During the last battle scene with Ommadon's flight of dragons, they lose their lives, just after he professes his love for her.
9. Which musical instrument does Garbash give to Giles to play, when they are being attacked by the flight of dragons?

Answer: Flute

The magic flute is given to Carolinus by his magic brothers, to help the group on their quest. Giles plays the flute which then sends all the dragons, including Peter, into a deep sleep. It does not however send Bryaugh to sleep, who then rampages through the group, killing some of the members.
10. Once Peter is back in Boston, what item is he trying to pawn, to pay his debts?

Answer: Golden Shield

When Peter finds himself back in Boston, he has the golden shield, given to him by the magical brothers to protect him from evil magical spells. He has lots of debts from the money he put into his inventions and schemes, which he can pay off with the money he gets from the pawn broker.
