Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which album's singles contained these non-album songs on the B-side? "Love So Cold", "Choc Ice Goes Mental", "The Retreat"

Answer: Too Low For Zero

"Choc Ice Goes Mental" (B-side to "Kiss the Bride") is a very bizarre instrumental, while "The Retreat" (B-side to "I Guess That's Why they Call it the Blues") is a fantastic song that can now be found on the remastered "Too Low for Zero" CD.
2. Which album's singles contained these non-album songs on the B-side? "All Across the Havens", "It's Me That you Need"

Answer: Empty Sky

These singles are both associated with "Empty Sky", Elton's first and often overlooked CD. Both were B-sides to Elton's first single, "Lady Samantha", at two different releases.
3. Which album's singles contained these non-album songs on the B-side? "Conquer the Sun", "Cartier", "White Man Danger"

Answer: 21 at 33

"21 at 33" was Elton's first album of the 1980s. "Conquer the Sun" appeared as a B-side to "Little Jeannie", a big hit. "Cartier" and "White Man Danger" both appeared on the same B-Side, with "Don't You Wanna Play this Game No More?" on the main side. "Cartier" is a very short "ad" for the Cartier Jewelry store, while "White Man Danger" is an offbeat number about domineering caucasians.
4. Which album's singles contained these non-album songs on the B-side? "Suit of Wolves", "Fat Boys and Ugly Girls"

Answer: The One

During Elton's comeback era in the late 80s and early 90s, "The One" (1992) marked a decided return to his earlier style. "Suit of Wolves" is slow (and slightly boring) and "Fat Boys and Ugly Girls" is a very well written faster number. Both can be found on the remastered CD of "The One".
5. Which album's singles contained these non-album songs on the B-side? "Sick City", "Cold Highway", "Ho! Ho! Ho! Who'd Be a Turkey at Christmas?"

Answer: Caribou

"Sick City" and "Cold Highway" are both good enough to be A-sides, or at least be featured on the album itself (B-sides to "Don't Let the Sun go Down on Me" and "The Bitch is Back", respectively). "Ho Ho Ho! Who'd Be a Turkey at Christmas?" is a tricky one. It was released as a B-Side to the "Step Into Christmas" single, which can NOW be found on the remastered "Caribou" CD.
6. Which album's singles contained these non-album songs on the B-side? "Take me Down to the Ocean", "Hey, Papa Legba"

Answer: Jump Up!

"Take Me Down to the Ocean" is a fast song reminiscent of the Beach Boys style, both lyrically and melodically. It is found on the B-side of "Empty Garden", a touching John Lennon tribute. "Hey, Papa Legba" is a very silly song....enough said. It can be found on the B-side of "Blue Eyes" (a top-ten hit!)
7. Which album's singles contained these non-album songs on the B-side? "Lonely Boy", "A Simple Man", "Tactics"

Answer: Breaking Hearts

A group of two non-descript songs and one instrumental ("Tactics"). The A-sides are "Who Wears These Shoes", "Sad Songs Say So Much", and "In Neon", respectively.
8. Which album's singles contained these non-album songs on the B-side? "Jack Rabbit", "Whenever You're Ready (We'll Go Steady Again)", "Young Man's Blues" Remember, looking for the album of the A-sides.

Answer: Goodbye Yellow Brick Road

This one's a bit tricky, as these songs can now all be found on the remastered "Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player" CD. Originally, however, they appeared as B-sides to "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting" and "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road". Another interesting note: "Young Man's Blues" was originally titles "Screw You", but was thought to be too offensive and was actually pulled off of the shelves in some stores before the renaming.

The line is still featured prominently in the song.
9. Which album's singles contained these non-album songs on the B-side? "Love is a Cannibal", "Dancing in the End Zone"

Answer: Sleeping with the Past

"Sleeping with the Past" is a very mellow album, helping Elton in his comeback of the late 80s / early 90s. "Dancing in the End Zone" was a B-side to "Healing Hands", and has no discernible connection to American football (as the term endzone would suggest). "Love is a Cannibal" was a B-side to "Sacrifice", and also featured on the Ghostbusters II soundtrack.
10. Which album's singles contained these non-album songs on the B-side? "Bad Side of the Moon"

Answer: Elton John

This is old-school, but those around at the time might remember this song as a B-side to "The Border Song". Though it was a B-side and not featured on the actual album, it was commonplace at live concerts at the time. A very good song, not at all similar to "Dark Side of the Moon" by Pink Floyd.
