Milstreet is more town than city, but it was there that the contest was staged at the Green Glens Arena. Milstreet is a town of about 1500 inhabitants, in the western part of County Cork.

2. Which country won the 1993 Eurovision Song Contest?

Answer: Ireland

For the second year in a row, Ireland won. Their entry "In Your Eyes", was sung by Niamh Kavanagh. The song was written by Jimmy Walsh.

3. The UK's 1993 entry was a song called "Better The Devil You Know". Who sang it?

Answer: Sonia

Sonia Evans is one of the youngest females to chart a number one hit in the UK, with her 1989 hit "You'll Never Stop Me Loving You". She is also an actress, and played the role of Sandy in the musical Grease in the West End of London.

There is a limited amount of time in which the competition can be broadcast, and the numbers of potential contestants were growing rapidly. While this was clearly not a good long-term solution, the interim plan was to have Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Estonia, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia compete for three available slots in the finals.

It was Yugoslavia, for the simple reason that it no longer existed as Yugoslavia. The various new countries which had made up the Yugoslav republic competed separately.

The odds were on for the United Kingdom to win with its entry "Better The Devil You Know". There were eleven points in it, with Ireland in the lead, when the last vote came up. Had the twelve points gone to the UK, they would have won. Anything less than eleven would leave Ireland in the lead. The last country to vote gave twelve points to Ireland, sealing the win.

8. Who was the presenter at the 1993 Eurovision Song Contest?

Answer: Fionnuala Sweeney

Fionnuala Sweeney is now a CNN anchorwoman, but at the time of the Eurovision competition she was a presenter for Irish television station RTE; prior to that she was a broadcaster on pirate radio.

The others are all Irish television presenters.

9. There's always a halftime - what was the entertainment for the halftime of the 1993 Eurovision Song Contest?

Answer: Linda Martin & Johnny Logan

Linda Martin and Johnny Logan provided the halftime entertainment. Martin was the winner of the previous year's competition. Logan won in 1980 and 1987, as well as writing the song which won in the previous year.

Dave Allen was a comedian, Jean Butler is a dancer and Percy French was an entertainer and songwriter who died in 1920.

Only two countries tied on points at the competition. They were Denmark and Slovenia, who tied for twenty-second position with nine points each.
