Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What California group released their 'Pet Sounds' album in 1966?

Answer: The Beach Boys

Beach Boys released 'Pet Sounds' in 1966. It is pretty much the most progressive pop album ever. The majority of it was done by Brian Wilson who always threw himself into his work, which possibly accounted for his nervous breakdown. He's amazing nevertheless!
2. What very thankful group was Jerry Garcia with?

Answer: Grateful Dead

The Grateful Dead, 1965-1995, started out in the San Francisco Bay area in California and ended up having a cult following. Man, they were quite the pioneers and innovators for concert sound. In 1998, The 'Guinness Book of World Records' officially said the band had played the most rock concerts ever performed at that time. Keep on truckin'.
3. Donny and Marie Osmond were in a family musical group from Utah called the Osmonds. What religion were they members of?

Answer: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints

They were part of a really big family, nine kids in all. Marie was the only girl. Their dad was their manager and at first it was five of the brothers on tour, the Osmond Brothers, but later they added Marie. They were singing during the time the Jackson Five were doing their thing. Most people call their religion 'Mormon' but that's just a nickname. Mormon was a prophet from 'The Book of Mormon'.
4. Which of these men was NOT a member of the Sex Pistols? Don't go worshipping him.

Answer: Billy Idol

They were an English punk rock band formed in London 1975. The fact they wanted to tick people off attracted more fans than the music itself. They even managed to get one of their songs banned from the BBC, 'God Save the Queen'.

Answer: John Michael Osbourne

7. Santana formed out of which Golden Gate city?

Answer: San Francisco

Carlos Santana formed his band in 1967, originally called the Santana Blues Band. He was from Mexico but was such a talent when young with the violin and guitar that his father, who was a musician, brought the family to America in San Francisco. He's gone on to be quite successful.
8. WHO is responsible for the awareness of Baba O'Riley?

Answer: The Who

These guys were a British rock group that became popular in the 1960s and '70s and originated the rock opera! The members were Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend, John Entwistle, and drummer Keith Moon. My favorite album was 'Tommy' and I loved the movie too about the pinball wizard 'Tommy' because a really cute guy asked me out and took me to see it.
9. Who originally recorded 'Respect'? Maybe he was sitting on the dock of a bay when writing it.

Answer: Otis Redding

Aretha Franklin made Redding's song a hit in 1967. He wrote it for himself about his wife but Aretha wanted the song and changed up some words to make it her own. He didn't like it but gave in. After all, he got the royalties because he wrote the song originally.
10. Which band member from Kiss is renowned for his freaky long tongue?

Answer: Gene Simmons

Kiss formed in 1973 and became known for their crazy outrageous face paints and outfits. They had shocking live performances - they did fire breathing stunts, they'd spit blood, they'd use smoking guitars, they shot rockets, levitated drum kits, and used fire (pyrotechnics). What a show!
