Patrice Lynn Yearwood was born in Monticello, Georgia in 1964. Her father was a banker, and her mother was a teacher. She attended the University of Georgia, but dropped out, moved to to Nashville, TN, and attended Belmont College. She started working as a background singer at Mary Tyler Moore's MTM records.

She sang backup for Garth Brooks, and was heard and signed by MCA records' producer Tony Brown. She was the opening act for Brooks' 1991 tour, and released her first album that year.

Trisha Yearwood's 1996 album, "Everybody Knows", for which this is the title song, reached number six on the Billboard Country albums chart. This single reached number three.
