Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of the following items is NOT part of the armour of God?

Answer: Boots of repentance

Ephesians 6:13-17 discusses the armour of God. Verse 15 states to have "your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace."

This question was submitted by shadow338, using the King James Version as a reference.
2. After Jesus fed the five thousand men with five small barley loaves and two small fish, how many baskets full were gathered up by the disciples after everyone had eaten? (NIV)

Answer: twelve

The feeding of the five thousand is recounted in John 6:1-15. Only the number of men is recorded, but it is likely that there were also many women and children present.

This question was submitted by lg549 using the New International Version as a reference.
3. The New International Version tells us that Felix was a Governor, and his wife Drusilla was what?

Answer: Jewess

Acts 24:24 tells us that, "Felix came with his wife Drusilla, who was a Jewess. He sent for Paul and listened to him as he spoke about faith in Christ Jesus." Felix wanted to please the Jews, so he left Paul in prison for two years until he was succeeded by Porcius Festus.

4. According to most scholars, which was the first gospel to be written?

Answer: Mark

Scholars believe that Mark wrote down the apostle Peter's description of his witnessing of Christ's life. The four gospels are said to symbolize different aspects of Jesus Christ: Matthew represents the kingship of Jesus, Mark represents Him as a prophet, Luke represents Him as the Savior, and John represents Him as the Son of God.

5. How do the two witnesses in the book of Revelation protect themselves from their enemies?

Answer: Fire from their mouths

Revelation 11:5 says, "And if anyone wants to harm them, fire proceeds from their mouth and devours their enemies. And if anyone wants to harm them, he must be killed in this manner."

According to the vision of the Apostle John, the two witnesses will prophesy for one thousand two hundred and sixty days. They will have powers given to them by God. Eventually, they will be killed and their bodies will remain in the street, unburied for three and a half days. After that time, God will resurrect the witnesses and they will ascend to heaven in a cloud. You can read more of the apostle John's visions in the Book of Revelation.

6. When Joseph was about to die, what did he make the children of Israel swear?

Answer: To take his bones with them when they left Egypt

According to the last chapter of the book of Genesis, Joseph told the children of Israel that God would deliver them from Egypt; he made them promise to take his bones with them when they left. Four hundred and thirty years later his promise was fulfilled by Moses and the freed slaves.

7. David wrote Psalm 52 as a response to the actions of Doeg the Edomite. What had Doeg done to disgust David so much?

Answer: Told Saul of David's whereabouts leading to drastic consequences

Psalm 52 is headed in the NIV "When Doeg the Edomite had gone to Saul and told him, 'David has gone to the house of Ahimelech.'" In this Psalm David rails against Doeg as someone who boasts of evil and plots destruction. However, he continues that God will ruin Doeg and that he will become a laughingstock. Having worked through his anger David fixes his focus on God again, praising Him and declaring his own trust in God.

The story of Doeg's evil actions can be found in 1 Samuel 21 and 22. In chapter 21 David and some of his men had fled from Saul (who was trying to kill David) to the house of Ahimelech the priest in the city of Nob. They were in a desperate situation and Ahimelech provided them with food (in the form of consecrated bread) and a weapon (Goliath's sword). While they were with Ahimelech, Doeg, Saul's head shepherd, was also there. In the NIV it says that he was "detained before the Lord" which is interesting in light of what happened next (1 Samuel 21:7).

In 1 Samuel 22:6 the scene has switched to Saul and his officials, Saul having heard that David had been discovered but not knowing quite where. Doeg was also present at this time. When nobody else was willing to divulge David's whereabouts to Saul, Doeg decided to speak up and report that he had seen David at Ahimelech the priest's house. The result of this was that Ahimelech and his family were summoned to Saul and Saul, being extremely angry, passed a death sentence on them. However, when he ordered his guards to carry out the sentence they refused as the men were priests of the Lord. (At least they had some fear of God even if their master didn't!) King Saul then turned to Doeg and ordered him to kill Ahimelech and his family. Doeg did so and went on to massacre 85 priests as well as all the inhabitants of the city of Nob, including animals.

One of Ahimelech's sons, Abiathar, managed to escape though and went to find David to tell him what had happened. David was deeply distressed as on the day that he saw Doeg at Ahimelech's house he had a suspicion that Doeg would report him to Saul. David therefore felt that he himself was responsible for the deaths of all those that Doeg had slaughtered. It would have been at this time that David wrote Psalm 52. Incidentally, Doeg is never mentioned in the Bible again.

David's daughter Tamar was raped by her half-brother Amnon (David's son). See 2 Samuel 13 for the full story.

It was King Saul himself who took his daughter Michal away from David and gave her to Paltiel as a wife (1 Samuel 25:44). Later when David was king he ordered for her to be given back to him (2 Samuel 3:13-16).

8. Which book of the Bible are we told we are "blessed" to read, though it is generally one of the least read?

Answer: Revelation

Rev 1:3 "Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand" (King James Version). Because of the use of much symbolism, many find this book too difficult to comprehend and so it is not much read, yet it is a book for today's generation.

9. (KJV) The apostle Paul (Saul) was dwelling in a certain city when Jewish assassins sought to kill him. He escaped death by the disciples lowering him down through the city wall in a basket. What city did this occur in?

Answer: Damascus

During Saul's/Paul's conversion, the Jews' onetime champion against the Christians turned out to be their biggest adversary. He continually confounded them until they sought to kill him by laying in wait by the city gates. Because of this, the disciples in that city had to lower him down the city walls in a basket by night where he escaped to Jerusalem. Acts (9:22-25)

10. Many Scripture passages talk about believers being refined like gold or silver, but where in the Bible is God is the descriptive term "refiner's fire" used?

Answer: The book of Malachi

"For he is like a refiner's fire," according to Malachi 3:2. Verse 3 talks about the sons of Levi being purified and refined like precious metals. The characterization of God as a "refiner's fire" is also a theme in some popular praise and worship songs.
