Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Unscramble the letters in JUDAS ISCARIOT to answer this question: What was the name of the man who had his young daughter raised from the dead by Jesus, as per Luke 8:40-53?

Answer: Jairus

Jairus was the father of the girl who was raised from the dead by Jesus, according to Mark 5:21-43 and Luke 8:40-56. Scripture states he was a synagogue ruler. The account of his daughter being raised from the dead is one of most popular in the New Testament.

In the accounts in Mark and Luke, it tells of people weeping for the dead girl outside her home. When Jesus appeared and stated the girl was not dead but was simply sleeping, the 'mourners' laughed at him. A few moments later, however, their laughter turned to total amazement when Christ raised the girl from the dead.

According to Mark 5:41, Jesus said, "Little girl, I say to you, get up!" And she did just that! It's interesting to note that Jesus used almost the same words as when he raised the widow's son from the dead at Nain. In Luke 7:14 in the NIV Bible, Jesus said eight words to the widow's dead son: "Young man, I say to you, get up!"
2. Unscramble the letters in JUDAS ISCARIOT to answer this question: Who was the judge of Israel who had thirty sons and ruled for twenty-two years? (Judges 10)

Answer: Jair

Jair is the correct answer. According to the 10th chapter of Judges, Jair replaced Tola and led Israel for 22 years. The fourth verse states he had 30 sons who rode 30 donkeys and they controlled 30 towns in Gilead. When Jair died, he was buried in Kamon, as per Judges 10:5.

Jair is also the name of three other men in the Old Testament.
3. Unscramble the letters in JUDAS ISCARIOT to answer this question: Who was the third king of Judah and was succeeded by his son Jehoshaphat? (1 Kings 15)

Answer: Asa

The third king of Judah was Asa, who was the son of Abijah and grandson of Rehoboam. According to 1 Kings 15:11, Asa did "what was right in the eyes of the LORD." Scripture states he reigned 41 years in Jerusalem.

According to 2 Chronicles 16:12, Asa became diseased in his feet during the 39th year of his reign. Scripture states "his malady was severe; yet in his disease he did not seek the LORD, but the physicians." The following chapter tells of Asa being replaced as king by his son Jehoshaphat.
4. Unscramble the letters in JUDAS ISCARIOT to fill in the missing word that appears three times in Zechariah 14:12 in the NIV Bible: "This is the plague with which the LORD will strike all the nations that fought against Jerusalem: Their flesh will ___ while they are still standing on their feet, their eyes will ___ in their sockets, and their tongues will ___ in their mouths."

Answer: rot

The missing word is 'rot'. The 14th chapter of Zechariah, in the NKJV Study Bible, has two subtitles giving information about its contents. The subtitles are 'The Day of the LORD' and 'The Nations Worship the King'. Notes in the NKJV point out the word 'plague' used in Zechariah 14:12 is the same word used by God to describe the judgments against Egypt, as per Exodus 7:17 to 12:30.
5. Unscramble the letters in JUDAS ISCARIOT to fill in the missing word that appears twice in Matthew 21:5 in the King James Bible: "Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ___, and a colt the foal of an ___."

Answer: ass

The missing word is ass. The verse in question quotes Jesus prior to His triumphant entry into Jerusalem. Shortly after, Christ would be betrayed by Judas Iscariot, put on trial, cruelly beaten and crucified -- only to rise from the dead, according to Scripture.
6. Unscramble the letters in JUDAS ISCARIOT to fill in the missing word from Genesis 2:7 in the NIV Bible: "Then the LORD God formed a man from the ____ of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being."

Answer: dust

The missing word is 'dust'. According to Scripture, man was made from the dust of the ground and woman was made from the rib of Adam, the first man. The creation of Adam and Eve is found in the second chapter of Genesis.
7. Unscramble the letters in JUDAS ISCARIOT to fill in the missing word from Genesis 46:5 in the NIV: "Then Jacob left Beersheba, and Israel's sons took their father Jacob and their children and their wives in the _____ that Pharaoh had sent to transport him."

Answer: carts

The missing word is 'carts'. The verse in question tells of Jacob and his wives and their 11 sons and their wives leaving for Egypt in carts provided by the Pharaoh. In Egypt, they would be reunited with Joseph who had ascended to Number Two in command, surpassed by only the Pharaoh, Scripture states.
8. Unscramble the letters in JUDAS ISCARIOT to fill in the missing word from 1 John 1:9 in the New King James Version: "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and ____ to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

Answer: just

The missing word is 'just'. The verse is a classic. Many evangelical Christians believe it is important to confess their sins to their Heavenly Father to be "cleanse[d] from all unrighteousness." Christian tradition holds 1 John was written by John, one of the original Twelve Disciples. Tradition also has it he wrote the Gospel of John, 2 John, 3 John and Revelation.
9. Unscramble the letters in JUDAS ISCARIOT to fill in the missing word that appears in Acts 24:5 in the NIV Bible: "We have found this man to be a troublemaker, stirring up _____ among the Jews all over the world. He is a ringleader of the Nazarene sect."

Answer: riots

The missing word is 'riots'. The passage in question pertains to Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles. According to Scripture, Tertullus made the charge against Paul while the apostle was on trial before Felix, governor of Judea. Tertullus was accompanied by Ananias, the high priest as well as elders, as per Acts 24:1. The same verse describes Tertullus as an "orator".

The chapter ends with Felix procrastinating and not making a decision on Paul's fate. As a result, Paul was imprisoned for two more years. Felix would then be replaced by Festus and Paul would have yet another hearing, according to Scripture.
10. Unscramble the letters in JUDAS ISCARIOT to fill in the missing word that appears in Matthew 27:3-5 in the NKJV Bible: "Then Judas, His betrayer, seeing that He had been condemned, was remorseful and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, saying, 'I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.' And they said, 'What is that to _____? You see to it!' Then he threw down the pieces of silver in the temple and departed, and went and hanged himself."

Answer: us

The missing word is 'us'. The passage in question tells of Judas Iscariot betraying Christ for thirty pieces of silver, only to deeply regret his decision and end up committing suicide.

Judas was one of the original Twelve Disciples. According to John 6:71, he was the son of Simon. Whenever a list of names of the Twelve Disciples appears in Scripture, Judas is last. According to John 12:6, Judas was in charge of the money collected for Christ's ministry, "but because he was a thief... he used to help himself to what was put into it."
