1. Who was the first pitcher to win the Cy Young Award in both leagues?

Answer: Gaylord Perry

The others were not pitchers. Gaylord won the Cy in 1972 with the Indians, with a record of 24-16. Then he won it again as a San Diego Padre in 1978, going 21-6. In 1970 as a San Francisco Giant, Gaylord was also the runner-up for the Cy Young Award, losing to Bob Gibson of the Cardinals.
2. In what year in the 20th century did the San Diego Padres win their first World Series?

Answer: They did not win it

The organization did not exist until 1969. Their first World Series appearance came in 1984, under the management of former Athletics' manager Dick Williams. The Tigers defeated the Padres 4 games to 1.
3. What pitcher, in September of 2003, set a record for saving 55 games in 55 appearances in regular season play?

Answer: Eric Gagne

The others listed were starting pitchers in 2003. Eric bested Tom Gordon's mark of the Boston Red Sox, set in 1998-1999. Gagne began his streak in the 2002 season. Eric was in his 5th season in baseball, and with the Dodgers.

The 1967 World Series was not to be for the Red Sox, as Cardinals' pitcher Bob Gibson won 3 games, in a 4 games to 3 crowning.

Sammmy hit 64 in 2001. This was his 4th consecutive season of hitting 50 or more in a season. Sosa was in his 13th season, and his 10th with the Cubs.

Rusty never pitched in his career. Nicknamed, "Le Grand Orange", for his red hair, he played his first 6 seasons with the Astros. From there he played with the Expos from 1969-1971. After a few years with the Mets, Tigers, and 1 season with the Rangers, he retired in 1985. He retired with 292 home runs.
7. How many home runs did Babe Ruth hit, in his last season with the Red Sox in 1919?

Answer: 29

The others were never season totals for the Babe. In his last season in Boston, he led the league by smacking 29, one season before he exploded as a Yankee in 1920, by hitting 54. Frank Baker of the Yankees was the runner-up in 1919, by hitting 10.
8. What team won the World Series, 2 months and 1 day prior to the attack of Pearl Harbor?

Answer: New York Yankees

The other teams only existed before the first World Series in 1903. On October 6, 1941, the Yankees beat their crosstown rivals again, Brooklyn Dodgers, 4 games to 1. This was not difficult with the tremendous roster that the Yankees experienced, in the names of Rizzuto, DiMaggio, Keller, Dickey, and the pitching arms of Red Ruffing and Tiny Bonham.
9. Which of the following was a Cincinnati Red, who won a Rookie of the Year, 2 season MVPs, a World Series MVP, numerous Gold Gloves, was an All-Star many times, and is a member of the Hall of Fame?

Answer: Johnny Bench

None of the others ever played for Cincinnati. Bench did it all throughout his great career. The ROY came in 1968 as the Reds' catcher. His MVP's came in 1970 and 1972. 1976 brought him a World Series MVP, and he retired in 1983 after 17 seasons. He was inducted into the Hall in 1989 with 96% voting.
10. In what year did the Chicago White Sox go to their last World Series, in the 20th century?

Answer: 1959

1959 saw the great 2nd baseman Nellie Fox, lead the White Sox to the promised land. Unfortunately, the Los Angeles Dodgers spoiled their cake, by defeating Chicago 4 games to 2. The White Sox outscored the Dodgers 23 to 21 runs in the Series, including a game one 11-0 shutout.
