Answer: Cardinals

The Giants had players win it nine times. The Cubs had their share of MVP winners with 10. The Dodgers had 12 in the century. The Cincinnati Reds also pulled 11 MVP awards out. But, the St. Louis Cardinals were brimming with MVP winners throughout the years with winning it 17 times.

They were Rogers Hornsby, Bob O'Farrell, Jim Bottomley, Frankie Frisch, Dizzy Dean, Joe Medwick, Mort Cooper, Stan Musial 3, Marty Marion, Ken Boyer, Orlando Cepeda, Bob Gibson, Joe Torre, Keith Hernandez, and Willie McGee.
2. Which National League team took the bragging rights for winning the most games in a season in the first 100 seasons?

Answer: Chicago Cubs

The 1906 Cubs, led by player-manager Frank Chance, won their first National League pennant, and their first of three consecutive NL crowns. The team went an amazing 116-36 in the 152-game season in 1906. They would lose to the White Sox, but win the next two World Series over the Tigers both times.

In 1910, the Cubs would win another NL title, but lose to the Philadelphia Athletics in the World Series. The Cardinals never won 100 season games in the 20th century. The Pirates won over 100 games only twice, and Dodgers went over the 100-win mark five times, but none with over 105 wins.
3. In 100 seasons of Major League baseball, no National League team won three consecutive World Series, but three teams won back to back World Series. They were the Cubs, Giants, and which other team?

Answer: Reds

The Cubs repeated in 1907 and 1908. The New York Giants won two over the Babe Ruth led Yankees in 1921 and 1922. Nicknamed the 'Big Red Machine', the Reds took the 1975 series over the Red Sox, then over the Yankees in 1976. The Reds ruled the National League in the 1970s, with four NL crowns along with two second place finishes.

These were all under the helm of the great Sparky Anderson.
4. Some teams could not make up their minds with which manager to helm their team. Which of the following National League franchises had the fewest managers in the 100 Major League seasons?

Answer: Dodgers

The Dodger franchise had a history of sticking with the same manager for long stretches, except for having four managers in 1947 and 1948. They had 18 total in 100 seasons. The Braves had 42, the Phillies 38, and the Reds had 37 different managers. Even the Giants, who had manager John McGraw for 31 seasons, still had 22 other different managers.

The Pittsburgh Pirates, stingey with their managers, had only 25 in 100 seasons. The Cubs could not make up their minds at all, with 47 different managers, including having three different managers in a season, six times.
5. Some may know that it took the Philadelphia Phillies 80 seasons of Major League baseball to finally win a Worlds Series, and had a dry stretch of 35 seasons without a NL pennant. Which of the following NL teams had a longer stretch of not winning a National League pennant?

Answer: Cubs

The Phillies had two stretches with no flags, 35 years from 1916-1950, then another 30 seasons from 1951-1980. The Giants franchise went dry for 27 seasons from 1963-1989. The Expos never won a NL pennant in 31 seasons from their inception in 1969 to the end of the century.

The Braves had two terrible spells, from 1915-1948, and from 1959-1991. From 1901-1945, the Cubs won 10 National League crowns, then the bottom fell out. From 1946 to the end of the century, the Cubs would not see another NL crown.
6. 13 times in the 100 seasons of Major League baseball, a player hit .400 in a season. It happened only four times in the National League, but three of those were by the same player from which team?

Answer: St. Louis Cardinals

The player was Rogers Hornsby, who batted .401 in 1922, .424 in 1924, and .403 in 1925. The only other National Leaguer to top the .400-mark was Bill Terry, who hit .401 with the 1930 New York Giants. Jeff Bagwell hit .368 for a team high with the Astros in 1994. The Pirates had Paul Waner and Arky Vaughn hit in the .380s, and the Rockies didn't have anyone reach the .380 mark.
7. Not wanting the world to know it, which National League team lost 100+ games in a season the most times?

Answer: Philadelphia Phillies

The Phillies lost 100+ games 14 times. From 1936-1942, the Phillies had an unfortunate run of losing 100 games six times in seven seasons, topping out at 111 in 1941. The Braves' franchise (not listed) weren't far behind, losing 100 games in a season 13 times.

The Braves' worst season in franchise history was in 1935, with Babe Ruth in his final season. They went 38-115. The Mets lost 100 games five times in six seasons from 1962-1967. The Expos lost 110 games in their first season in 1969, never to see another 100-loss season.

The Cubs had two poor seasons, in 1962 and 1966, losing 103 games both times.
8. Which of the following National League teams entered the 21st century without a Cy Young winner?

Answer: Cincinnati Reds

Even with some pitching greats in the names of Jim Maloney, Gary Nolan, Bob Purkey, Jim O'Toole, Sammy Ellis, and Don Gullett, the Reds could not win a Cy Young award. The Dodgers had nine Cy Young's to their team trophy case. The Mets won the Cy Young four times, with Tom Seaver winning three and Dwight Gooden winning one. Even the Expos got into the picture with Pedro Martinez and his 1997 Cy Young season.
9. Which National League franchise saw their players hit 50+ home runs in a season the most times in the first 100 seasons of Major League baseball?

Answer: Cubs

Ralph Kiner did it twice for his Pittsburgh Pirates in 1947 and 1949, hitting 51 and 54, respectively. The Dodgers didn't have a player that hit 50 in a season. Gary Sheffield matched Duke Snider's 1956 season of 43 in 2000, but that's all that the Dodgers could muster.

The Braves didn't have a player do it either, even with some greats by the names of Joe Adcock, Hank Aaron, and Eddie Mathews. The Cubs on the other hand saw it four times, with Sammy Sosa doing it three times from 1998-2000, and Hack Wilson hitting 56 in 1930.

The Giants (not listed) did it three times, with Willie Mays hitting 50+ twice, and the other being Johnny Mize in 1947.
10. Which Major League National League franchise could not set themselves on a team name, and changed it the most times from 1901-2000?

Answer: Braves

The Dodger franchise changed their name six times in the 20th century, but also had five name changes in the late 1800s. The NL Chicago franchise were the Orphans in 1901, then in 1903 housed the Cubs name. The Giants were the New York Giants from 1901-1957, then the San Francisco Giants from 1958 until the end of the century.

It was the Braves franchise, who went through eight name changes in the 20th century. They came to Major League baseball in 1901 as the Boston Beaneaters. They were the Boston Doves from 1907-1910, the Rustlers in 1911, then the Boston Braves in 1912. From 1936-1940, they were the Boston Bees, then the took back the Braves name from 1941-1952.

In 1953, the team moved to Milwaukee, and kept the Milwaukee Braves name until their move to Atlanta in 1966.
