1. Tree

Answer: Stanford University

Stanford Tree is an unofficial mascot for Stanford University in California. The mascot won out of mascot suggestions such as the French Fry and the Steaming Manhole. The Stanford Tree is an ugly unkempt mascot with large eyes and an off center mouth. The mascot appears at basketball and football games as well as other Stanford sporting games. The Stanford Tree has made the worst college mascot list. The Stanford tree is on the Stanford University seal. I

The original designer and wearer of the Stanford Tree was Christine Huston in 1975. Stanford University has "tree week" to decide who will wear the mascot costume for that year.
2. WuShock

Answer: Wichita State University

WuShock is a seven foot tall, wheat shaped mascot for Wichita State University in Kansas. The college's nickname "the Shockers" comes from the fact that employees at the college used to supplement their wages by gathering wheat in the fields closest to the college. WuShock made his first appearance as the Wichita State University mascot in 1948 when Wilbur Elsea (a junior at the college) won a design contest for a college mascot.

When a contest was created to name the mascot, a freshman named Jack Kersting won with the name WuShock.
3. Otto the Orange

Answer: Syracuse University

Otto the Orange is the anthropomorphic fruit who is the mascot for Syracuse University. Otto made his first appearance in 1980. Cheerleaders gave Otto his name during cheerleading camp. Otto was named the official Syracuse University mascot in 1995 and is in the Mascot Hall of Fame.
4. Goldy the Gopher

Answer: University of Minnesota

Goldy the Gopher won the UCA Mascot Championship in 2011, 2013, 2017 and 2018. He will show up at all sporting events as well as parades. Goldy the Gopher first appeared as the mascot for the University of Minnesota in 1952 when a band member was asked to don a wool gopher suit and papier mâché head.

He had a bronze statue of himself erected in front of the Coffman Memorial Union. It was constructed by a University of Minnesota alumni named Nicholas Legeros. The University of Minnesota has a Goldy Gopher Day on Goldy's birthday, September 23.
5. Rameses

Answer: University of North Carolina

Rameses is the mascot at University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. A flesh and blood ram named Rameses first appeared as the University's mascot in 1924 during a game between UNC and Virginia Military Institute. The look of Ramses was inspired by the Tarheel fullback Jack Merritt and first appeared as human in a mascot suit in 1988.
6. Phil the Phoenix

Answer: University of Chicago

The University of Chicago chose the phoenix as its mascot to show the rebirth of Chicago from the fire in 1871. The phoenix is also on the shield for the University of Chicago. Phil goes on school visits in the United States and around the world.
7. Testudo the Turtle

Answer: University of Maryland

Testudo the Turtle is the mascot for the University of Maryland. Testudo is a diamond terrapin who became the college mascot after Coach Byrd gave it a recommendation. A bronze sculpture of Testudo was put up at the University of Maryland by the class of 1933.

When the sculpture of Testudo was kidnapped several times, it was moved to a shed until 1951 when it was brought out again, filled with cement and planted in front of Byrd stadium.
8. Leprechaun

Answer: University of Notre Dame

The Leprechaun represents the Fighting Irish of the University of Notre Dame in Indiana. The Leprechaun was designed by Theodore Drake in 1964. Candidates to play the Leprechaun are put through a training course which includes Notre Dame trivia. "Time" magazine put the Leprechaun on the front of its magazine for the November 1964 issue.
9. Sparty

Answer: Michigan State University

Sparty is the foam rubber mascot for Michigan State University dressed as a Spartan warrior. Michigan State University changed their name from Aggies to Spartans in 1925. In 1955, the mascot Sparty appeared with a papier mäché head thanks in part to Theta Xi fraternity. Tom Sapp, a character designer, redesigned Sparty in 1989 using a foam rubber head.

Sparty became the first mascot in the Big Ten conference to win the Best Mascot National Championship in 2004.
10. Big Al

Answer: University of Alabama

Big Al is the elephant mascot from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. The idea for the mascot came about when a sportswriter heard the football team and announced "here come the elephants". Big Al made his football debut at the Sugar Bowl in 1980. Big Al's design was helped along by Walt Disney who was contacted by the football coach Paul Bryant.
