He was named the 1988 National League MVP, and deservingly so. Even though Gibson had injuries to both of his legs, he was sent in to pinch-hit for his Dodger team. The Oakland Athletics were winning with a score of 4-3. With two men out in the bottom of the ninth inning, Gibson hit the home run. The Dodgers won that game, with a score of 5-4 as Gibson limped to home plate due to his leg injuries. The Dodgers ended up winning the 1988 World Series in 5 games. This was the sixth World Series title for the Dodgers.
