They defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates of the National League.
2. How many games did it take Boston to win the first World Series?

Answer: 8 games

It had been decided by Henry Killea, owner of the Boston team, and Barney Dreyfuss, owner of the Pirates, that it would be a best of 5 series. Therefore the maximum number of games would be 9.
3. No player who joined a team after which date would be eligible to play in the postseason?

Answer: September 1

Both Barney Dreyfuss and Henry Killea agreed on September the first and it has continued down to the present day.

Answer: Bill Dinneen

Bill Dinneen won 3 games and was most deserving of the award. Cy Young won 2 games for Boston. Jimmy Sebring batted .367 for Pittsburgh which was the best for the Pirates and Chick Stahl had a .303 for 8 games. The first official World Series MVP was awarded in 1955.

This was the first and only time that an owner was so generous to his players in showing his gratitude.

Patsy's two home runs came in game two. This feat was not accomplished again until 1915 when Harry Hooper did it for the Boston Red Sox in the fifth and final game of that World Series.

Answer: 28 games

Boston had three 20 game winners in 1903 including Bill Dinneen who won 21 games and Tom Hughes who won 20 games. Interestingly enough, no Pittsburgh pitcher won 20 games in 1903.
