2. Donnie Shell #31

Answer: South Carolina State University

In 1974, Shell was signed by the Steelers as an undrafted free agent. He joined 4 other Steelers from the class of '74 who have been enshrined in the HOF. Three other SC State Bulldogs in the HOF are Harry Carson, Deacon Jones and Marion Motley. SC State is one of the historically black colleges where the Steelers often found great talent.
3. Franco Harris #32

Answer: Penn State University

Harris and teammate Jack Ham were Penn State Nittany Lions. Harris was used mostly as a blocking back for teammate Lydell Mitchell. The two running backs would eventually go in business together, founding "Super Bakery".
4. Mel Blount #47

Answer: Southern University

Southern University and A&M College is the official name of another historically black college. Mel was picked in round 3, 53rd overall. He was 6' 3" and about 220lbs, much larger than modern cornerbacks.
5. Mike Webster #52

Answer: University of Wisconsin-Madison

Center Mike Webster was a 5th round pick in the outstanding '74 Steelers draft class. Two other Wisconsin Badgers are in the HOF. QB Arnie Herber of the Packers and Giants was inducted in 1966. End Elroy Hirsch of the Rams was inducted in 1967.
6. Jack Lambert #58

Answer: Penn State University

Penn State's Beaver Stadium (named after a man, not an animal) is among the largest seating capacity stadiums worldwide.
8. Joe Greene #75

Answer: North Texas State University

North Texas' team name was "Mean Green" This is how Joe Greene's nickname was easily combined into "Mean Joe Greene". Some well known entertainers who went to what is now called University of North Texas include Pat Boone, Don Henley, Meatloaf, Norah Jones, Peter Weller, Steve Austin and Phil McGraw.
9. John Stallworth #82

Answer: Alabama A&M University

Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University is the unabbreviated name. Steeler Hall of Fame scout Bill Nunn got all the game films of John Stallworth, assuring the University he would make copies for the other NFL teams. That never happened. The Steelers were able to get Stallworth in the 4th round, since they were the only team able to see his film and comfortable enough to draft him.
10. Lynn Swann #88

Answer: University of Southern California

in 2021, fellow Steeler Troy Polamalu joined Swann and became the 13th former USC Trojan player inducted in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Some 40 years after the Steelers began their Super Bowl wins, Lynn Swann was named the Athletic Director of USC.
