Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. At the beginning of episode seven, the unsuspecting designers were eating breakfast when a deliveryman arrived with parcels to be used for the next challenge. What designer from season 1 showed up wearing a USPS uniform?

Answer: Robert Plotkin

Everyone else had been a little starstruck by Robert's appearance at their doors, but Emmet had NO idea who Robert was. For all he knew, Robert WAS his postman. Quite an awkward little moment!
2. While wearing their newly acquired gaudy skating outfits, the designers learned that they had to consider performance AND appearance when constructing their seventh garments. What famous athlete were the designers asked to dress?

Answer: Sasha Cohen

Though Chloe's aqua ruffle submission received high marks, Zulema ended up the winner of this challenge with her white beaded costume. Poor Emmet not only got the "Auf Wiedersehen", he was forced to make his exit wearing the hot-pink satin shirt that Robert Plotkin had delivered to him the day before.
3. After her win in the seventh challenge, Zulema shocked her fellow designers and created great tension by doing what?

Answer: Taking someone's model

The winning designer in each challenge has the option of staying with their current model or switching with someone. The tradition this season has been to stay with the original model - but Zulema rocked the boat when she "stole" Tara from Nick and shook his confidence. She became very unpopular as a result.
4. Episode eight was all about inspiration. Each designer was given a digital camera and sent out into the city to try to find that one image that would spark their creativity. What unlikely object did Andrae choose to work from?

Answer: Dirty gutter water

Though not the winner, Andrae's flowing grey bias-cut gown with braiding and beading was an AMAZING interpretation of such a mundane object! Daniel ended up winning this one with his submission based upon an orchid he saw in Michael Kors' office.
5. Santino is famous for his spot-on impression of the designers' mentor Tim Gunn. Which of these phrases is NOT a "Gunnism"?

Answer: "Faster and better!"

There is a hilarious extended version of Santino's impressions at bravotv.com/projectrunway . In particular, I love the one in which Tim Gunn and Andrae get into a fight over dinner at Red Lobster.
6. Oh, the dreaded "innovation" challenge! Instead of traveling to their favorite fabric store, the designers were told to spend their (paltry) $100 in another location. Where did they shop for materials for garment number nine?

Answer: A garden store

The judges were disappointed that everyone chose less expensive leaves and moss rather than flowers as their main materials. Daniel had the foresight to add his purple flowers to his winning garment at the last possible moment, ensuring they lasted long enough to make it to the runway interrogation.

He had evidently seen Season 1 and knew what happened to Austin's unrefrigerated cornhusk garment on the runway (dessication)!
7. There was an interesting twist for garment number ten; the designers were to do a total makeover on one of their fellow contestants. What was wrong with Santino's design for Kara?

Answer: All of these

Santino spent a lot of time editing and commenting on the outfit Kara was making for him to wear. His own submission suffered quite a bit by his lack of time to attend to his own work. This garment, a neutral jumpsuit, was unfinished and can barely said to have been sewn at all! Chloe won this challenge with a dapper pin-striped suit for Nick.
8. Evening gowns were the order of the day for challenge number eleven. What top model served as a judge and agreed to wear the winning look on the red carpet?

Answer: Iman

Everyone except Santino (of course) played it very safe, knowing that this was the last challenge before fashion week. Of Daniel's winning navy gown, Iman said "I will make it less boring." Ouch! Santino pushed the judges again by adding loops of paillettes to his golden gown, but Kara's poor construction earned her the boot instead.
9. The winning three designers received some VERY unwelcome news from Heidi and Tim just three days before Olympus Fashion Week; there was one more twist. What were the three challenged to do at such short notice?

Answer: Create a thirteenth garment

Brought to the breaking point by sheer exhaustion and stress, Chloe actually burst into tears at the news. Luckily, the winners were able to select an assistant from the booted contestants, and Andrae, Nick, and Diana proved to be invaluable in getting those thirteenth looks completed.
10. After the chaos and anxiety of the past few months, the day finally arrived for the show at the Bryant Park tents - the one challenge that would determine the winner of "Project Runway". Which designer's collection won the grand prize?

Answer: Chloe Dao

Chloe came from behind to win it all! Her eveningwear-based collection featured dresses with matching shrugs in heavy gold, pink, and green satins.

Thanks for taking my quiz, and I'll be back after Season Three!
