Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Memmio comes to Vorenus claiming a friend's relative was defiled. Why doesn't Vorenus help?

Answer: The boy was paid for the act

The boy in question had been paid and thus was working as a prostitute, in Vorenus's opinion. Pullo tried to have the men come to an agreement in that he believed the boy was taken advantage of.

Memmio claimed that asking Vorenus was only a formality. Vorenus was upset that Pullo questioned Vorenus's authority - especially in front of Memmio, a rival captain.

When Vorenus found out that Memmio disobeyed him, Vorenus asked Pullo to show Memmio the same disrespect he'd shown Vorenus. Pullo thought that would start a gang war and still wouldn't bring back Niobe, the children, or Caesar.
2. What drug was Octavia seen indulging in?

Answer: Marijuana

Octavia's friend Jocasta was getting Octavia to smoke some hemp. Apparently the Macedonia hemp was better. Jocasta was a tradesman's daughter, but Atia claimed it was all right as long as Octavia didn't bring in actors or the such. Octavia told Jocasta that Atia had been in a funk since Octavian left.
3. How does Atia convince Antony not to keep his plans about going to Macedonia when his term is up?

Answer: He still had enemies

Atia had heard from Octavia's friend that Macedonia was a horrible place to live. So, she told Antony that Brutus and Cassius wouldn't sit idle and would still want Antony dead.

Antony then told Cicero that he wants governorship of Gaul instead of Macedonia.
4. Why didn't Cicero want Antony to be governor of Gaul?

Answer: It was too close to Rome

Antony claimed he wanted Gaul instead because the weather was better. Cicero told Antony that it would look like he was emulating Caesar and Antony's armies would be too close to the border. Cicero then told Antony that the Senate would think that Cicero was in league with Antony. Antony told Cicero that he could tell the Senate that Antony paid him off.

Antony then threatened Cicero by reminding him that his friend had died by having molten gold poured down his throat.
5. Why was Vorenus upset at Pullo early in the episode?

Answer: Pullo knew about Niobe's secret

Pullo knew that Lucius was Niobe's child, yet he didn't tell Vorenus. When they have a fight later because Vorenus believes Pullo was in league with Memmio, Pullo tells Vorenus that he had slept with Niobe (which wasn't true) because Pullo felt that that's what Vorenus wanted to hear.
6. Who does Octavian send to talk to Octavia?

Answer: Agrippa

Octavian sent his friend Agrippa to deliver a message. Agrippa and Octavia would end up becoming lovers. Agrippa told Octavia that Octavian has 10,000 men. Agrippa told Atia that Octavian was well and gave Atia his respect and fidelity. Octavian also slightly warned Atia that she should keep her mind open for the future.

Atia then declared that Octavian was a traitor because Antony is the law and Octavian was deliberately acting against Antony. She then sent word to Antony that Agrippa was in the city. When Octavia protested about Atia working against her own son, Atia claims that she had no son.
7. Who sent the boy (Duro) to be in Atia's household?

Answer: Servilia

Duro was found outside the house being attacked. He was brought inside (after promising sexual favours) and began getting into the kitchen by sweet-talking the cook. He told Servillia that Atia wasn't dead yet because it was hard getting her alone, as Servilia didn't want Octavia killed as well. Duro told Sevrilia that if the poison was put on Antony, Atia would be dead as she 'dined' on him regularly.

Duro asked Servilia for more money - then asked her to kiss him.
8. Where is Brutus in this episode?

Answer: Eastern Turkey

Brutus and Cassius are trying to get more support to work against Antony.

One of the men insults Brutus, who seemed a bit drunk, by saying he was cowardly by stabbing a dead man.
9. Why didn't Antony care that Agrippa was in the city?

Answer: He knew what Agrippa was doing

Antony told Atia that Agrippa was going to meet with Cicero to try and form an alliance. But Cicero wouldn't go with Octavian because Antony controlled Cicero. Atia then made Antony promise he wouldn't hurt Octavian. Antony swore he wouldn't as Octavian was family.
10. Why does Pullo leave Rome?

Answer: He fought with Vorenus

After a dead man is found hanging, Vorenus believes that Pullo was working with Memmio - that's why Pullo sided with Memmio when Memmio came to Vorenus for help. Vorenus and Pullo have a huge fight and Pullo left Rome with his wife.
11. Why did Cicero leave town?

Answer: He didn't want to carry out Antony's request

If Cicero agreed with Antony that he should be governor of Gaul, he knew that the Senate would no longer respect him. If he didn't agree with Antony, Antony would kill him. So Cicero wrote a statement to be read into the books about how Antony had tried to bribe him and continued on to insult Antony.

Cicero made sure to leave town before this was read in order to be far away from Antony's wrath. Antony ended up killing the man who read Cicero's statement.
12. Cicero sided with Antony.

Answer: False

After Cicero's statement was read and Cicero was on the road, Cicero wrote a letter to Octavian saying he'd exposed Antony.
13. Three months after Cicero's statement was read in the Senate, where was Antony?

Answer: Gaul

Antony had gone to Gaul to raise an army to crush Octavian.
14. When Pullo returns to Rome, where was Vorenus?

Answer: With Antony

Vorenus had gone North with Antony to retake Gaul. In his absence, the Aventine Collegium fell apart. Pullo decided to leave Rome as it looked like a war was coming, but was told that Vorenus's children were alive.
15. What was Atia served that was poisoned?

Answer: savory stew of roots and vegetable

Duro, Servilia's man, poisoned the stew that was served to Atia.
