Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who is adopted by Julius Caesar in his will?

Answer: Octavian

In Caesar's will, he adopts Octavian as his son and wills his estate to Octavian. Although his last name was not Caesar (his mother was the daughter of one of Caesar's sisters), he adopted Caesar as his last name from then on.
2. This person was both Mark Antony and Julius Caesar's lover.

Answer: Cleopatra

Calpurnia was Caesar's wife.

Servilia was Caesar's lover. Although she was put under Mark Antony's 'protection' after Brutus fled the city, there was never any suggestion that she and he were lovers.

Atia was Caesar's niece and Antony's lover. Although she encouraged her son, Octavian, to become Caesar's lover, she never was Caesar's lover.
3. This person was Caesar's friend... but ended up helping the others kill him.

Answer: Brutus

Mark Antony was supposed to be with Julius Caesar, but was delayed and thus only came upon the scene of Caesar's murder after the fact. Brutus had been Caesar's friend, but believed Caesar began to act against the traditional Republic's values.
4. This person was killed while seeking refuge in Egypt.

Answer: Pompey

Pompey's forces had been defeated, so he went on the run with his family. When he landed in Egypt, Ptolemy had Pompey killed.
5. This person killed herself outside Atia's house.

Answer: Servilia

Servilia was mad at Atia for many things, but the straw that broke the camel's back was Atia's lover and son had won the battle against Servilia's son, Brutus. Servilia, feeling that there was nothing left to live for, staked out Atia's house until Atia came out to see what Servilia wanted. Servilia took that chance to curse Atia and promptly killed herself.

And that's when everything in Atia's life started to go wrong... Antony was married to Octavia, her daughter, then banished to Egypt where he took Cleopatra as his lover, refused to meet with Atia when she came to Egypt, and her son held her as a virtual prisoner.
6. This person married Mark Antony.

Answer: Octavia

As the relationship between Antony and Octavian deteriorated, Atia suggested there be a marriage between the two families (obviously implying that she herself be married to Antony). However, while she was out of the room, Octavian and Antony agreed that Antony would marry Octavia, Atia's daughter. Octavian gave the excuse that it wouldn't really look like a real bond if the two lovers married each other - everyone knew they had feelings for one another.

It was also mentioned that Octavia had a better chance of giving Antony children. And Antony told Atia that Octavian had told him it would be impossible for Antony to marry Atia.
7. This woman killed herself.

Answer: Niobe

Vorenus confronted Niobe about her infidelity while he was away fighting. Vorenus was threatening her with a knife, so she backed away from him and jumped off the balcony.
8. This man was the implied father of Caesarion.

Answer: Pullo

Vorenus was the first one who was approached by Cleopatra's slave to 'father' a child. Vorenus declined as he had a wife. Pullo, on the other hand, readily accepted.

Cleopatra was desperate to conceive as she was fertile and believed it would be too late if she waited until she was in Alexandria with Caesar.
9. This person was beat up by his mother's lover.

Answer: Octavian

When Atia and Mark Antony heard that Octavian had defied their order not to give Caesar's money to the plebes, Atia started yelling at Octavian. Octavian ended up hitting his mother in the face, which caused Antony, Atia's lover, to start beating up Octavian.

The pair stopped their fight and as Atia and Antony were leaving Octavian's room, Octavian called his mother a whore. This got Antony mad again and started beating up Octavian even harder than before. It got to the point where Atia had to grab Antony's head and beg him to stop hurting her son.
10. This person claimed to be a son of Hades.

Answer: Vorenus

Vorenus, while trying to get all the gangs to work together, shouted he was a son of Hades. Pullo didn't like it - he thought that Vorenus would anger the gods by saying that. Vorenus claimed that it had the effect he desired: the other gang leaders were afraid of him.
