Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which presenter is known as the queen of crafts?

Answer: Carol Duvall

The show is simply called "The Carol Duvall Show". Her enthusiasm is contagious. The show is no longer in production but you can still watch the reruns. Carol has retired.

Carol featured nearly imaginable form of crafting - needlework, knitting, crocheting, stamping, painting, metal work, polymer clay and scrap booking to name just a few. The features on "fine art crafters" covered a similarly wide range of crafts,
2. Who is the host of "UnCommon Threads"?

Answer: Alison Whitlock

"UnCommon Threads" shows a wide range of projects - all done with needles in one form or another. There have been episodes on needlepoint, weaving, turning old sweaters in to tote bags and altering clothing. Some episodes feature designers and crafters from around the country, many with an urban or modern twist.

There is more about Shay Pendray and Martha Stewart in other questions, so I won't say much about them. Perky Katie Couric is a news reader.
3. What craft item, beloved by many, is Carol Duvall's mascot?

Answer: Sock Monkey

A sock monkey, seems to appear in every episode of "The Carol Duvall Show". There have been actual sock monkeys, polymer clay sock monkeys and sock monkey pins.

Sock monkeys predate Carol's TV presence. According the various histories of the sock monkey I read to write this section, the distinctive red heeled socks were being used to make monkeys before 1951.

I have sock monkey made by my mother 50 years ago and she made each of her grandchildren a sock monkey. All three still live with me and I will make my grandchildren sock monkeys.
4. What is the name of Shay Pendray's fabulous show seen on public television?

Answer: "Needle Arts Studio"

Like "UnCommon Threads", Shay Pendray's show has a wide range of needle crafts on her show. The presentation is amazing and her guests are well known with in their area of needle crafts. "Needle Arts Studios" features more traditional projects than "UnCommon Threads".

The "wrong answers" are all names of needlework stores I have had the pleasure of shopping for needlework supplies.
5. Jackie Guerra hosts a show called?

Answer: "Jewelry Making"

Great how to and projects and the guests are quite diverse. Projects are done with polymer clay, beads and wire work. Excellent "how to" segments on making basics of jewelry making.

Jackie Guerra is also a spokesperson on obesity and an actress.
6. HGTV's quilting show is presented by Alex Anderson. What is the name of this show?

Answer: "Simply Quilts"

Even for non-quilters, quilting shows contain valuable information on fabrics, textile care and color theory. Quilts shown on "Simply Quilts" range from antiques to modern marvels of computer aided design.

"Quilt in a Day" is on RFD TV, "QuiltersTV" is a webcast and "Quilting Arts TV" is a PBS show. Thank heavens for the web so I can watch these shows.
7. Which show features an ancient and useful craft?

Answer: "Throwing Clay"

The show is on DIY. Stumbling across this show one early morning gave me the idea for this quiz.

Pottery is an old craft. Humans have been using baked clay to hold water and for cooking since pre-history. Modern potters are putting their twist on an ancient art. The episode on lidded boxes was very interesting.
8. Cathie Filan and Steve Piacenza host which mixed craft show?

Answer: "Creative Juice"

"Creative Juice" has the widest range of crafts of the shows covered by this quiz. Steve and Cathy do a modern twist on the tissue paper flowers using coffee filters. There are spots on aromatherapy, table top fountains and home made game boards. There are also some cooking and mixed drink spots for the adults.

I love the interaction between these two and the projects really are doable by most people. My 10 year old daughter will watch this with me and we have tried several of the projects.
9. I'm not about to start tailoring my clothes or to sew my own, but if I was who would I watch to learn more than I learned from my grandmother?

Answer: Susan Khalje on "Sew Much More"

While "Sew Much More" does do spots on home decor and accessories, the majority of the show is devoted to the finer points of tailoring and customizing patterns to your own measurements.

Designing and sewing your own attire is very "in" as witnessed by shows like "Project Runway" and adult education classes abound When I was in high school most girls learned the basics of sewing and tailoring in home economics class or at home from a family member. My grandmother taught me to make my own clothes when I was a teen and I continued to do make some of my own clothing through college. Now the machine only comes out to finish craft projects and mend.

I don't watch much Martha Stewart, but the wrong answer sounds like something she would host.

What to Wear and Trinny does America are nod to a pair of guilty pleasures, "What Not to Wear" (both the British amd American shows) and "Trinny and Susanna Dress America."
10. Known as the doyenne of crafting, cooking and gardening, her catch phrase is "It's a good thing".

Answer: Martha Stewart

Martha Stewart started as a cook book author and later started her magazine "Martha Stewart Living" which featured cooking, gardening and home decor with some craft related projects.

I'll catch "Martha Stewart Crafts" on DIY sometimes, but don't find her as interesting to watch as other craft hosts. What I have seen are all clips of projects she did on her original show.

Martha Stewart has been a guest on "Imus in the Morning", a radio talk show. She is quite funny when she wants to be.
