Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In Leg 7, teams flew to which of these nations en route to Zambia?

Answer: Zimbabwe

Mongolia held the sixth Pit Stop of the race, so teams opened their clues at the Choijin Lama Temple in Ulaanbaatar and learned that their next task would be to fly to the African nation of Zimbabwe. The six remaining teams needed to head to the airport in Ulaanbaatar where they could catch a flight taking them through Beijing and Addis Ababa before finally landing in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. Upon arriving, teams received a traditional welcome from the locals before opening their next clue.
2. How many letters did team members need to locate when they rode the microlight for the Road Block task in Zambia (in Leg 7)?

Answer: Six

After landing in Zimbabwe, teams were immediately told to head to the nation of Zambia, crossing the Victoria Falls Bridge over the Zambesi River and proceeding by taxi to their next clue waiting at the Batoka Sky Aerodrome. This ended up being the leg's Road Block and it asked for a team member who could 'do things to the letter'. For this task, the selected teammate needed to soar above the Victoria Falls in a microlight aircraft and spot six letters.

When they landed and unscrambled the correct letters to spell MUKUNI, they could head to their next destination. Ash, Jerome, Rod, Tyler, Viv, and Femi completed this task.
3. Leg 7 (in Zambia) saw the return of what rare race mechanic?

Answer: Intersection

Reaching Mukuni Village, teams came across an Intersection, a race mechanic that required two teams to partner up to complete tasks until their instructions allowed them to split up and resume the race. For this task, the four joined members needed to join a local band and play the marimba in sync to receive their next clue. Tom and Tyler intersected with Jasmin and Jerome, Sid and Ash went with Tim and Rod, and Viv and Joey worked with Femi and Nick. Once this task was completed, teams were no longer intersected.
4. Which Detour option in Leg 7 proved to take longer for teams to complete?

Answer: 'Separate'

After the Intersection, teams headed off to one of two Detour tasks. This time, the choice was between 'Cultivate' and 'Separate'. In 'Cultivate', teams had to work in a field by harnessing two oxen to a plough and creating eight furrows in which they could plant crops. If they could do this in straight lines, they could move on.

In 'Separate', teams instead constructed thatched fences to separate parts of a property for a newlywed Zambian couple. When completed to a local's approval, they received their next clue. both tasks were completed in Mukuni Village. Tom and Tyler, Tim and Rod, Femi and Nick, and Viv and Joey all completed 'Cultivate'; Jasmin and Jerome and Sid and Ash completed 'Separate'.
5. Which team was last to arrive at the Pit Stop in Africa in Leg 7, avoiding elimination?

Answer: Sid and Ash

After completion of the Detour, teams returned to their vehicles to receive a message from home containing their next clue directing them to the Livingstone Island Launch Site. Once there, teams had to board a local ferry along the Zambesi to take them to collect a clue from atop Victoria Falls.

This clue would direct them into Mosi-a-Tunya National Park to check into the seventh Pit Stop at the Elephant Cafe. Teams heading along this route were required to stay on the path to avoid disrupting the local ecosystem. Nevertheless, Tom and Tyler pulled back into the lead position for the fifth time this race, winning the leg. Sid and Ash, held back by a wait for a ferry, were last to hit the mat not only because of the delay, but because they struggled getting out of their vehicle upon arrival. Fortunately for them, this was a non-elimination leg.
6. In Leg 8, teams started with which of these types of tasks?

Answer: Road Block

To begin Leg 8, teams were brought to the Zambia-Zimbabwe border to cross back into Zimbabwe, and there, they opened up the Road Block immediately. For this task, one team member needed to 'gorge themselves'. This meant that the selected team member needed to take a swing over the Zambesi River at Batoka Gorge (which, interestingly, was one of the first tasks done in any "Amazing Race" franchise, back in 2001). Tom, Rod, Joey, Femi, Jerome, and Sid completed this task.
7. The Speed Bump found in Leg 8 forced both participating team members to complete the same Road Block task.

Answer: True

Because they placed last in the previous leg of the race, Sid and Ash were forced to contend with a Speed Bump task in the eighth leg, and fortunately for them, they were able to approach it at the very start, heading to Batoka Gorge for the Road Block. For this Speed Bump, Ash also had to complete the swing, getting in line behind Sid at the back of the pack before taking on their next task.
Following the Road Block, teams visited the Victoria Falls Private Game Reserve to work with an anti-poaching group, identifying signs of poachers to collect their next clue.
8. Which team claimed the Fast Forward clue in Leg 8?

Answer: Tom and Tyler

After completing the Road Block, teams had a quick opportunity to snag a Fast Forward by heading to the Victoria Falls Private Game Reserve. Once there, teams had to give a crap by handling and identifying ten different specimens of animal dung, matching them properly with their respective animals. If they could get everything sorted, they could get their clue and head directly to the next Pit Stop. Tom and Tyler were the only team to attempt the task and they succeeded.
9. Both Detour tasks found in Leg 8 involved completing work at which Zimbabwean location?

Answer: School

After the poaching task, teams drove to the Chisuma Primary School and found their clue at the suggestion box. This led into the leg's Detour task, a choice between 'Build Up' and 'Serve Up'. In 'Build Up', completed by Tim and Rod, Femi and Nick, and Jasmin and Jerome, teams had to assemble two of three playground items for the school-- a seesaw, monkey bars, or a swing set.

In 'Serve Up', completed by Sid and Ash and Viv and Joey, teams had to make a complex traditional meal over a fire pit for the kids.
10. Which team was eliminated at the end of Leg 8?

Answer: Sid and Ash

After the Detour, teams had to drive to their eighth Pit Stop, Mpala Village outside of the Victoria Falls area of Zimbabwe. Teams completing the entire run of the leg (without a Fast Forward) had to fill buckets of water upon their arrival at the village and bring them to the Pit Stop with them to check in. Tom and Tyler placed first after completing the Fast Forward, retaking their lead after a few legs falling back.

It ended up being their sixth win overall. Although Sid and Ash arrived on the mat in second place, penalties incurred from speeding against the rules dropped them to last place, eliminating them with less than fifty seconds left on the clock.
