Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What item will get you out of Mt. Moon, Game Corner, or Pokémon Tower and return you to the most recently visited Pokécenter?

Answer: Escape Rope

Escape Ropes will always cost $550 at Pokémarts, but it's quite easy to find one in a location such as a cave or a building. In fact, the item will be best used in one of these locations. If it's used, it will take you directly to the last Pokécenter that you healed your Pokémon at.

The only other thing in the game that will send you to a location automatically is HM02 (Fly) which can be learned by flying Pokémon. This move will send you straight to any town that you choose.
2. How much does a Nugget sell for?

Answer: $5,000

Nuggets are items that can be found around Kanto and they sell for a good chunk of money at any Pokémart. The first of these can be found on Nugget Bridge on Route 24 (north of Cerulean City), and they can be found in many caves and towers otherwise.

Other than being sold for money, these items have no other use. Items like Carbos, Calcium, and HP Up also have a high selling price, but are often better used on Pokémon.
3. Which of these is not an item?

Answer: Sodium

Carbos, Calcium, Protein, and Iron can be bought in the Celadon City Department Store, or they can be found throughout Kanto. Carbos raises a Pokémon's speed, Calcium raises special, Protein raises attack rating, and Iron raises defense rating. All of the effects of these items are permanent, and each Pokémon can use up to ten of each item. Every one of these items, at $9,800 apiece, is the highest-priced item in the game. Also, may I suggest, feeding your Pokémon pure sodium may not be the smartest idea. :P
4. Which of these items costs the most?

Answer: X-Defend

All of these items boost certain qualities that your Pokémon have. The X-Defend costs the most of the four choices at $550, while X-Attack costs $500 and X-Special and X-Speed both cost $350. The most expensive of these temporarily empowering items is X-Accuracy at $950. All of these can be found throughout Kanto, but they can only be bought on the Fifth Floor of the Celadon City Department Store. You may also find that gym leaders use these items in battle.
5. What item raises a Pokémon's level?

Answer: Rare Candy

The Rare Candy can't be bought in stores, but it can be found in a few places around the map. The item sells for quite a bit, but when you use it, your pet's level is raised by 1. Many people end up using the Missing No. cheat in order to get hundreds of these and max out their Pokémon's levels.

When you put a Rare Candy-trained Pokémon up against a naturally-trained Pokémon, the naturally-trained one will win- even if you give it Carbos, Iron, Calcium, and Protein.
6. Which costs more: Burn Heal or Ice Heal?

Answer: Neither! They cost the same.

Both of these often unused items cost $250 when found at Pokémarts. Burn Heals can be found as early as your first visit to Viridian City's Pokémart, but Ice Heals aren't found until you reach the Pokémart in Vermilion City. The Burn Heal will remove the burn status effect which will gradually decrease your Pokémon's health (like poison), and the Ice Heal will cure a Pokémon when it's frozen and unable to attack. Paralyze Heal is another status effect healing item, and it costs only $200 at the Pokémart.

The Full Heal will heal all of these and more, but at $600, it's not as cheap.
7. Which of these is not an evolution stone?

Answer: Grass Stone

The evolution stone for Grass-type Pokémon is known as the Leaf Stone. There are five different evolution stones in the game (the final choice being the Moon Stone), and only four can be bought. Once again, the Moon Stone is omitted from that total. Moon Stones can only be found in the wild around Kanto; the most common of these places being Mount Moon.

The Leaf Stone can be used to evolve your Weepinbell or Gloom. All four buyable stones can be purchased in the Celadon City Department Store, and they cost $2,100 each.
8. How much does a Pokédoll cost?

Answer: $1,000

The Pokédoll is quite a unique item. If you use one of these during battle, it will take the place of your Pokémon as a decoy and it will take any hits that your Pokémon would have taken. The Pokédoll's health may not be much, but it may give your Pokémon just the right amount of time it needs in order to win a battle. Pokédolls can be found in the Celadon City Department Store as well as in a house in Saffron City.
9. How many Safari Balls do you receive upon entering the Safari Zone?

Answer: Thirty

Safari Balls are the only type of Pokéballs that can be used in the Safari Zone, so if you're playing "Pokémon Red or Blue", the Missing_No glitch won't help you anymore!
Safari Balls seem much weaker than other Poké balls, and the battles are much more difficult in the Safari Zone. Instead of attacking with a Pokémon, you'll feed wild Pokémon with bait and throw rocks at them in order to catch them. The Safari Zone contains many rare Pokémon such as Dratini and Tauros which can't be caught anywhere else, so if you can master the Safari battle techniques, you'll catch them.
10. What does an Elixir do to your Pokémon?

Answer: Restores PP

PP is the amount of times that your Pokémon can use a certain attack. For example, Confusion may have 25PP, but Mega Kick may have 5PP. PP levels can be raised permanently with the use of PP Up. Elixirs will restore PP of all of a Pokémon's attacks by ten points.

Much like Elixirs, Ethers will also restore PP, but only for one attack that you choose. Elixirs and Ethers are not sold in Pokémarts, and they don't sell for any money, so you can either make use of them, store them, or toss them.
