The first Grand Prix de Monaco was organised in 1929 by Anthony Noghes (the final corner is named after him) and the Automobile Club de Monaco. Interestingly enough, his father, Alexandre, had helped organised the first Rallye Automobile de Monte-Carlo (Monte Carlo Rally) in 1911. The race was won by William Grover-Williams, at the wheel of a Bugatti Type 35B. Bugatti would win four of the first five races in Monaco.

Graham Hill was a British Formula 1 driver and two time World Champion. He was so nicknamed because he was the first driver to win the Monaco Grand Prix 5 times in 1963, 1964, 1965, 1968 and 1969.

Silverstone first hosted the British Grand Prix in 1950, and was the first race in the newly inaugurated Formula 1 Championship. With upgrades to facilities and the track layout - including moving the pits and start/finish straight - Silverstone has become a permanent fixture on the grand prix circuit.

Aintree hosted the race in 1955, 57, 59, 61-62.

Laid out on the streets of Monte Carlo, the Monaco GP is one of the oldest grand prix circuits in use on the race calendar. It is also one of the most prestigious races in motor sport, ranking alongside the Indianapolis 500, Daytona 500, and Le Mans. The first ever Monaco GP was organised by Anthony Noghes - who gave his name to one of the corners - in 1929. Amongst the most successful drivers on this circuit were Graham Hill and Ayrton Senna.

This was the first race held in the USA under the name 'United States Grand Prix' that counted towards the Formula 1 world championship. It was also the first on a more traditional track (non oval) that counted for the world championship. The US Grand Prix was the last race that season. Australian Jack Brabham was leading the championship but Britons Moss and Brooks still had a chance to win it. The race was won by Brabham's team-mate at Cooper, Bruce McLaren. McLaren was the first New Zealander to win a Grand Prix and, at the time, also the youngest winner. McLaren's victory secured the world championship for Brabham, who finished only fourth. Brooks finished third and Moss retired from the race. In 1963 Bruce McLaren founded his own team, which today is still one of the most successful F1 teams.

Indeed, the French Grand Prix never found a permanent home until 1985 when the Paul Ricard circuit hosted the race from 1985-1990. Then Magny Cours (Circuit de Nevers) took over hosting duties from 1991 onwards.
