@thebeerpatriot is Samuel Adams who, depending on which historical account you read, either helped plan the Boston Tea Party with the other Sons of Liberty or tried to stop it from happening. Either way, it happened and around 300 men dressed as Mohawk Indians dumped 90,000 pound of tea into the harbor.

Chief Justice Taney wrote the decision in the Dred Scott case that said Dred Scott could did not have standing to sue in the courts because the U.S. Constitution did not protect those of African descent. He also declared the Missouri Compromise unconstitutional because he believed Congress could only create territories from the former Northwest territories and not the Louisiana territories because the latter did not belong to the U.S. at the time of the Constitution's signing.

Sharpsburg, or Antietam in the North, was a Civil War battle. The Union was led by George McClellan, a.k.a. @CautiousGeorge and the Confederacy led by Robert E. Lee, a.k.a. @MarbleMan. It was the bloodiest day ever in U.S. history with over 22,000 casualties on both sides combined.

The Union felt confident despite the losses and President Lincoln delivered the Emancipation Proclamation shortly afterward.

There is a claim that JFK made a blunder when he gave his famous speech in Berlin. German language experts, however, believe that the president did not misspeak.

The claim that Kennedy unintentionally said he was "jelly donut" does not predate 1983 - and the speech was made twenty years earlier! What's more the claim is confined to the English-speaking countries.
