Dusty Springfield (1939-1999) from North London was born Mary Isobel Catherine Bernadette O'Brien, however, she changed her name in the early 1960s. He first solo single was ""I Only Want to Be with You" in November 1963. It rose to number four in the UK and number 12 in the USA. "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me" peaked in the UK and USA in 1966.
Cilla Black (1943-2015) from Liverpool had eleven Top Ten hits in the British charts between 1963-1971.
Sandy Shaw from England had a number of hits in the British and US charts and was the first British act to win the Eurovision Song Contest in 1967.
Marianne Faithfull from London is a singing, songwriter and actress, however, her musical career in the 1960s was, and has been, overshadowed by her drug abuse.

Lesley Gore (1946-2015) from Brooklyn, New York City was still at school when "It's My Party" became a number one hit in 1963. This was followed up with "You Don't Own Me" which reached number two, "Judy's Turn to Cry" and "She's a Fool" both reached number five on the charts.

She was also an accomplished songwriter and actress and was nominated for an Academy Award for her song "Out Here on My Own" (she wrote the lyrics) in the musical film "Fame" (1980).

Mary Wells (1943-1992) was from Detroit, Michigan and was one of the first artists to introduce the music industry to Motown. Before "My Guy" she had a number of other Top Ten hits with "The One Who Really Loves You" (8), "Two Lovers" (7) and "You Beat Me to the Punch" (9).
Mable John was the first female signed by Berry Gordy for Motown's Tamla label. Mable was a blues vocalist. Gladys Knight was part of the R&B/soul musical act from Atlanta, Georgia called Gladys Knight & The Pips. They won a number of musical awards in the 1970s.
Diana Ross was from Detroit, Michigan and as lead singer of the vocal group The Supremes became Motown's most successful act with twelve number one hits on the US Billboard Hot 100.

Little Eva (1943-2003) was an American pop singer from North Carolina. The song "The Loco-Motion" was written by the husband and wife team Gerry Goffin and Carole King. "Let's Turkey Trot", also by Little Eva, made it to number 20 on the charts in 1963.
"Johnny Angel" reached number one for two weeks in 1962 and the artist was the American singer and actress Shelley Fabares. Connie Francis took "Don't Break the Heart That Loves You" to number one in March 1962.

Petula Clark is an English singer, composer and actress whose career started as a child in 1939 on BBC radio. In the 1950s she started recording in French and English. Her second number one hit in the USA was "My Love" in February 1966. By achieving this she became the first British female to have two number one hits in the USA.
Kathy Kirby (1938-2011) was an English singer who is best known for her version of Doris Day's "Secret Love" which reached number four in the UK. Her physical appearance raised comparisons to Marilyn Monroe.
Shirley Bassey is a Welsh singer and best known for her James Bond theme songs in the films "Goldfinger", "Diamonds Are Forever" and "Moonraker".
Brenda Lee is an American singer and best known for her number one "I'm Sorry" in July 1960. She had nine consecutive Top Ten Billboard Hot 100 hits from 1960-1962.

"Those Were The Days" was sung by Welsh singer Mary Hopkins and the song reached number two in US and number one in UK in 1968. This song was produced by Paul McCartney and arranged by Richard Hewson.

Annette Funicello (1942-2013) was an actress and singer and one of the original "Mouseketeers" on the "Mickey Mouse Club". She had a number seven hit in 1959 with "Tall Paul" when she was 17 years old.
Shelley Fabares with "Johnny Angel" reached number one for two weeks in 1962 when she was 18 years old.
Ann Margaret sang "I Just Don't Understand" in 1961 which peaked at number 17 when she was 20 years of age.

"You Only Live Twice" was the title song for the James Bond movie of the same name in 1967.

Bobbie Gentry is a singer and songwriter from Mississippi who had a number one hit on the US Billboard Hot 100 in August 1967 with "Ode to Billie Joe". Jeanne Deckers, better known as The Singing Nun, topped the US Billboard Hot 100 in December 1963 for three weeks with the French language song "Dominique" This became the first Belgian song to hit number one in the USA.
Loretta Lynn is from Kentucky and a country music singer and songwriter. She has had 16 number one hits on the US Billboard Hot Country Singles chart from the mid 60s.
