Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. West Ham United

Answer: The Hammers

The nickname comes from a corruption of the place name "Ham", and also because of the stylised sledgehammers on the club's crest. These are a reference to the fact that the club's original name was "Thames Ironworks". That association also means the club is often known as "the Irons".

Thames Ironworks were formed in 1895, but changed names in 1900. Despite the fact they became known as West Ham, which is a place in East London, the club's ground from 1904 to 2016 was in Upton Park.
2. Luton Town

Answer: Hatters

The nickname comes from links to the hat-making industry. Luton Town were formed in 1885. Their most famous supporter was probably the comedian Eric Morecambe, who was also a director.
3. Sheffield Wednesday

Answer: Owls

The nickname comes from a local place a Owlerton. The unusual "Wednesday" developed from the fact that the founders were working men who had Wednesdays off. Founded in 1867, Sheffield Wednesday are one of the oldest clubs in England.
4. Falkirk

Answer: Bairns

The name comes from the town's motto: "Better meddle wi the deil than the Bairns o Falkirk". Founded in 1876, the club is one of the oldest in Scotland.
5. Wrexham

Answer: Red Dragons

The nickname comes from the red dragon of Wales that is featured on the club's crest. Wrexham Association Football Club was founded in 1864, making it the oldest club in Wales.
6. Bangor

Answer: Seasiders

Bangor FC were founded in the seaside town in Co Down, Northern Ireland, in 1918, making the nickname pretty obvious.
7. Wimbledon

Answer: Wombles

The nickname is a reference to the hugely successful animated TV show "The Wombles" (the Wombles were furry creatures that lived underground on Wimbledon Common in London and emerged to pick up the litter everyday folks left behind). The club was also knowns as "the Dons". It was founded in 1889.

In 2001, needing a new ground, the club was moved by a new owner to the town of Milton Keynes. The move antagonised many loyal fans, who refused to support the club in its new location. In 2004, the club's name was changed to Milton Keynes Dons. A majority of the original supporters switched allegiance to a new club. AFC Wimbledon.
8. Wolverhampton Wanderers

Answer: Wolves

The nickname was an obvious shortening of the club's name. The West Midlands club was founded in 1877 and was originally known as St. Luke's FC.
9. Everton

Answer: Toffeemen

Other teams began calling Everton the Toffees after the habit developed of a woman in a blue and white dress - the club's colours - walking around before games throwing toffee sweets to supporters in the stands. The club's name comes from a district of Liverpool, although the club grew out of St. Domingo Football Club, which was established in 1878. Ten years later, Everton were among the founding members of the Football League.
10. Manchester City

Answer: Sky Blues

The nickname comes from the colour of the club's strip (other 'Sky Blues' in England include Coventry City). Their other nicknames are 'The Citizens' and simply the'Blues'). Manchester City came into being in 1894, though traces it history through two other clubs to 1880. Down through the years City have had a close rivalry with their neighbours, Manchester City.

Some Manchester City supporters claim that their rivals are not a 'Manchester' club since they were established and play in Trafford, a district of Greater Manchester.

The rivalry between 'Man United' and 'Man City' has been deep. United have been the more successful in term of cups and league championships won.
