Guidelines for History

Please submit quizzes on royal families, individuals and dynasties to the People Category.

The following categories have been restricted, and only exceptionally good quizzes will be put online. They may be rejected if the questions are repetitive of existing ones, too simplistic or generally lack interesting material. You are welcome to submit to these categories but be warned the time and effort you spend may not be worth it. The same applies if your quiz is rejected and you wish to resubmit it, there will be no guarantee your quiz will go online.

- American Civil War (including all sub-categories)
- The American Revolution
- Nazi Germany
- World War II (including all sub-categories). General, unthemed quizzes on World War II submitted on templates numbered 304600 upwards will not be accepted, unless the author has already started a series.
- Man in Space

The following sub-category of 20th and 21st Century is closed to new submissions:
- 2000s

For tips on creating a good quiz play Creating a History Quiz: Some Hints.

1. Your quiz must have significant, interesting information on all questions. A repeat of the answer is not sufficient. Two or three sentences are ideal. Players in this category always want to know more. See what you can show them!

2. Please play plenty of quizzes already online in the subcategory you wish to submit to. That way you will know how not to duplicate questions that have already been asked. Quizzes containing questions that have been asked many times before probably won?t be accepted so play through a few and make yours stand out.

3. Fill-in-the-blank (FITB) questions cannot be longer than two words and quizzes consisting entirely or largely of true/false (or yes/no) questions cannot be accepted. Very simple quizzes are not accepted, either. In general, the combined number of of FITB and true/false (yes/no) questions should not exceed one fifth of the questions in the quiz.

5. Opinion based quizzes cannot be accepted, nor can scrambles, nor fractured word quizzes.

6. Each question must stand by itself so you don?t have to refer to another question in the quiz.

7. Quizzes based on video and/or computer games are not acceptable in the History category.

8. Check your spelling, grammar and punctuation. Using a spell-check program is a great idea.

9. Please put your quiz in the correct subcategory before submitting.

10. Quizzes that are in effect news digests are not acceptable.

11. New quizzes in "time machine" format are NOT acceptable.

12. Those writing quizzes on medieval history should bear in mind that it covers a long time-span and that questions may need to specify the period within the Middle Ages and often also the region.

13. Writing good 20-question and 25-question quizzes is difficult and should NOT be attempted without a good reason or by inexperienced authors.

14. Finally, if you have any questions about creating your quiz that you can?t find in the Quiz Creation Guidelines please contact the editors. Thanks and have fun creating!

Please do not write or submit a quiz until you have played a few games and are familiar with Quiz Creation Guidelines.
