FunTrivia.com Quiz Creation Guidelines

Welcome! Creating quizzes is a lot of fun and it's easy to do. However, there are a few guidelines that quiz authors must follow. The ultimate goal is to ensure that every quiz online is accurate as possible, enjoyable, and well written.

The golden rule : Our golden rule is simple - Be Creative! FunTrivia visitors come here to have fun and authors write quizzes to also have fun. Play with your favorite topic, tackle it from a new angle, think of new, interesting ways to present it. Anyone can whip up a half-baked quiz, but we challenge you to craft a trivia work of art.

Creating a quiz : A quiz should take some time and effort to create. Don't slap it together in 3 minutes just for the sake of creating a quiz, as it won't be accepted. Please play enough games in your category beforehand so that you are familiar with what typical quizzes look like, and go through the guidelines itemised below. Before writing your first quiz, hop over to the Quizmaker Tune-Ups sub-category and try some of those quizzes. The document Parts of a Quiz will also help you get started, as it explains all of the different elements that make up a FunTrivia quiz. First-timers must limit their quizzes to 10 questions; please do not write quizzes with 15, 20 or 25 questions until you have a few quizzes online! Finally, please limit quiz titles to five words, and do not put the word "Trivia" or the word "Quiz" in the title of your quiz, as it's redundant; everything in here is a quiz, and it's all about trivia!

Quizzes under construction : Please note that quizzes which have not been submitted after one month will be deleted (it's 2 months for some categories). If you would like more time to create your quiz add the words *Please do not delete*, or something similar, to the title of your quiz. Although the system will keep your quiz alive for a few more weeks/months, please do not rely on this concession; keep a back-up copy!

Creation notes for categories : Some categories have unique requirements on quizzes. Creators should check their chosen category to confirm peculiarities specific to your category, and see worked examples applying these guidelines. After creating a quiz, you can view a category's special requirements by clicking 'Read me first' at the top of the quiz edit screen.

Most common errors : Some of the common reasons submissions are rejected:
1. Obvious poor spelling and grammar.
2. INAPPROPRIATE USE OF CAPITALS.
3. Inappropriate use of fill in the blank questions.
4. Time-based questions.
5. Date stamping of questions.
6. Linked questions.
7. Inadequate explanation of correct answer/incorrect answers (aka interesting info or blurbs).

Queues and waiting times : Depending on how busy our editors are and how long the queues are, the time can vary greatly between when you submit a quiz and when it will be dealt with. You can check here for a rough outline of relative queue wait times.

Rejections by editors : Not every quiz submitted goes online - just under 2/3rds of all submissions received are rejected (either once or twice) and never go online, some categories are lower as they're error-free and well-written, and other categories have a higher rejection rate. Please do not ignore notes from editors.

Scrambles : FunTrivia Quizzyland no longer accepts scrambles or anagrams in any form, or of any type; unless specifically permitted by the editors of a category. Creators should familiarise themselves with the specific requirements of each category, in relation to questions of the scramble and anagram variety, before writing their quiz.

Simple quizzes : Quizzes that are purposely designed to be extremely simple are not allowed (except possibly in For Children, as decided by the editors of that category). This includes quizzes where all of the answers are extremely obvious, quizzes that have been deliberately written as an easy 100 points, and quizzes where all questions have the same answer.

A final note : Let your creativity shine. If you can think of a unique way to present a quiz, do so! We are always on the lookout for unique and special submissions, and our editors occasionally mark outstanding quizzes with out "Editor's Choice" stamp, ensuring that your quiz gains prominence on FunTrivia.com. Let this be your challenge: to create the best quiz you can!
