# Asuming that the bricks are exactly the same size and weight, how many bricks make up a ton of bricks?

Arpeggionist

It really depends on the size of the bricks. Are these 667 3-pound bricks or 400 5-pound bricks, or bricks of any other weight? Are we talking about tons in American measurements or in metric?

In most of the Western States common bricks measure about 8½x4 1/8x2½ inches... The weight of bricks varies considerably with the quality of the clay from which they are made, and also of course with their size. Common bricks average about 4½ pounds each...

The 'standard' brick varies in external dimensions between countries, as well as across time. And some are solid, while others are frogged, perforated, cellular or hollow. Two bricks of the same size made from different clay will not necessarily have the same weight, due to differing density. All of these factors mean that no EXACT answer is possible without a more precise specification of the brick.

These people produce a brick that weighs 3.6 pounds. Assuming you want a 2,000 lb ton if the brick is measured in lb, a ton would require 2000/3.6 = 556 bricks (with a piece of the last one left over).

And these people produce bricks with weights ranging from 2.6 to 3.0 kg (roughly 5.7 to 6.6 lb). Using a metric ton this time (1000 kg, roughly 2200 lb), the number of bricks in a ton would be between 333 (for the heaviest ones) and 385 (for the lightest ones).
