I'm not sure about my American geography but I think this is right: Juneau Honolulu Capital of Washington (Seattle?) Capital of Oregon (Portland?) Carson City Sacramento

That would be Salem, Oregon, and Olympia, Washington, as well as the others you listed, Gnomon; for Alaska, Hawaii, Nevada, and California.

If you make a straight line going north from Los Angeles, the capitals that are west of it are Sacramento, California; Juneau, Alaska; and Honolulu, Hawaii.
Salem, Oregon and Olympia, Washington are slightly east of that line. I could be wrong, but on the map I have that is what I get.

Maps can be deceiving, depending upon which type of projection is used. It is difficult to show a spherical Earth on a flat map. That is what makes this a fun trivia question. Los Angeles, CA is at 118 degrees, 25 minutes west longitude. Carson City, Nevada, is at 119 degrees, 75 minutes west longitude. Therefore, Carson City, NV, qualifies as a state capital west of Los Angeles.

Both Salem and Olympia are at 122 degrees West, so they are West of Los Angeles. So the final answer must be: Honolulu Juneau Olympia Salem Carson City Sacramento
