Is it possible to pot a red ball by the breaking shot in snooker?

Question #125677. Asked by urbankheki. (Apr 10 12 3:48 AM)

While it's technically possible in theory, it hasn't been recorded as happening in any pro tournaments and therefore the professionals don't generally attempt it.

Whilst it is true that professionals seldom attempt the shot it is certainly possible to pot a red off the break and this has been done countless times , if only by amateurs. Simply by the law of averages , a forceful shot rebounding from the bottom cushion so as to smash the pack will , on occasion result in a fluked pot of a red.
