crackers says: There is San Joaquin, San Benito, San Luis Obispo, San Bernadino, San Diego, San Francisco, San Mateo and then there is Santa Barbara, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz. Still trying to find the meaning of 'San' Thu Jun 28 01:53:52 CDT 2001 It appears that all the San.... places have been named after Saints. So maybe they were shortened to San instead of saying Saint Francisco (Saint Frances), etc Thu Jun 28 01:56:11 CDT 2001 Go to www.csac.counties.org/counties_close_up/county_history/county_names.html Thu Jun 28 01:59:16 CDT 2001 (Reposted as one entry - McG)
