What country do most American expats live in?

It seems about 40 per cent American expats like to live in countries closer to home like Canada, Central and South America. (What's the fun in that?)
About 20 percent Americans choose Europe (Clooney chose Italy) and about 14 per cent adventurous one choose East Asia and Pacific.
Very little percentage choose middle east for obvious reasons.

According to this wiki page, there are 9 million US citizens abroad, of which 1.5m are in Mexico, followed by Canada and India with 1.0m each.
