What was the ultimate fate of the Crystal Palace for the Great Exhibition of 1851 in London?

In 1852, it was dismantled and moved to South London, in an area that would be called "Crystal Palace." The exhibition facility struggled to earn its keep and fell into disrepair. In 1936 the building caught fire and was destroyed.
