Who are the "Town Musicians of Bremen"?

The "Town Musicians of Bremen" was a tale collected by the Brothers Grimm. A group of animals plan to become Bremen's musicians.

The animals were a donkey, a cockerel (rooster), a dog and a cat. The aging domestic animals had been maltreated and neglected and so chose to run away. Despite the story's title, the quartet never make it to Bremen. Instead they move into a house occupied by a gang of robbers, after tricking and scaring them off.
