The dispute between Anheuser-Busch InBev ("AB" - which markets Budweiser in the US since the late 19th century) and Budweiser Budvar Brewery ("BB" - the Czech brewery) dates back to 1907 and involved many legal cases around the world, some of which are still open.

Most of the European countries in which "BB" won the cases, market "AB"'s product as "Bud", with the exception of Germany, where it's marketed as "Anheuser-Busch B".
As a result, Budweiser Budvar has the rights to the name Budweiser in most of Europe and Anheuser-Busch InBev has this right in North America. Consequently, AB InBev uses the name "Bud" in most of Europe and Budvar sells its beer in North America under the name "Czechvar".
