It was never said, but it is assumed that the Clampetts were from the Missouri Ozarks since Bugtussle and Silver Dollar City, two towns that are often mentioned, are real towns in close proximity in Missouri.

The Beverly Hillbillies were from Hooterville along with the cast of 'Green Acres' and 'Petticoat Junction.' I remember the crossover shows as a kid, but here is a couple of websites as sources.

They where from Arkansas because three real towns that border Missouri were mentioned in the old episodes, Oxford, Timbo, and Eureka Springs. In the remake of the Beverly Hillbillies when Jed told them Jethro graduated from Oxford, it even flashed forward to him driving the truck down a dirt road that had a sign saying "Leaving Oxford, Arkansas."

Jed and Elly Clampett lived close to Bug Tussle near Branson, Mo. Granny who was Jeds mother in-law, moved from Tennessee to live with Jed and Elly. Pearl and Jethro Bodine lived a short distance from the Clampetts in Arkansas. The old truck sits in a museum at Point Lookout, Mo. just south of Branson. Various towns and locations in both the Missouri and Arkansas Ozarks are mentioned in many episodes.
