The green stuff in the corner of your eyes when you wake up and the green stuff that is more commonly known as boogies, what are the correct scientific or medical names for these two substances?

Question #42433. Asked by curlylad. (Dec 17 03 5:05 PM)

    sequoianoir

Nasal mucus or phlegm (also containing dust particles, etc.)

"Eye crusts" are the leftover protein and fat from tears which have seeped out during the night and have dried up.
Tears have three components, salty water (from the tear gland behind the upper outer corner of our eye), protein (secreted by the conjuctiva) which is the clear film that covers the eye and fat (from ducts in the eyelids.)

If it is "green" you DO have a mild infection of the eye and opthalmic antibiotics are a good idea. Seek a doctor's advice.

Conjunctivitis (inflammation of the conjunctiva) is the usual culprit.

Dark or vivid yellow is also not a good sign.

Beige, white and semi-clear are the only positive discharges from one's eye sockets!

I'll back Monkey up there. Any green discharge from the eye should be investigated medically ASAP. Green snot is often a sign of infection as well, but snot comes in various shades. Green phlegm coughed up is once again a sign of infection.

When eating lobster, what is the green stuff that is often encountered, and should it be eaten? How about the red stuff?

What is "sleep", the hard stuff in your eyes that we have when we wake up?

We usually think of this stuff as red. Not red-red, just red. But this time it's green, and is actually a surname, not a plastic. (Beware red herrings.) Well, so he's green, but his son was neither a Roman nor a boxer. His cousin, however, was part of a triumvirate, no measly little trio, though certainly not Roman. So, who *are* the Roman and the boxer and the triumvir? And, especially, who's green?
