Do Muslim countries use AD and BC when writing dates?

    Question #53965. Asked by Buck540.

Some Muslim countries use the Gregorian calender, so in these countries, I guess yes. Most use a lunar based calender called "Hijra" that is 11 days shorter per year.

Muslim countries use the date of Mohammes as their start date which was 622 years after the birth of Christ.

Mostly both are used. For example in newpapers, you'll get both the date in the Gregorian calendar and the date according to the Hijra calender.

We unthinkingly use the abbreviations AD and BC which have always it seems gone together. So why is AD a Latin abbreviation (Anno Domini) while BC is English (Before Christ) - or is it?

Normal arithmetic counts from negative numbers through zero to positive numbers, e.g. -2, -1, 0, -1, =2, etc. But for some reason years from BC through to AD do not have a zero year. It goes 2BC. 1BC, 1AD, 2AD, etc. Why is this? Was the inventor of the AD system simply a bad mathematician?
