How old is Holden in "The Catcher in the Rye"?

Question #72010. Asked by luvtheheaven. (Nov 04 06 1:05 PM)

Since his debut in 1951 as The Catcher in the Rye, Holden Caulfield has been synonymous with "cynical adolescent." Holden narrates the story of a couple of days in his sixteen-year-old life, just after he's been expelled from prep school.

    That would make him 55.

Actually, that makes him 16, which is all I wanted to know. In the book, Holden is 16-year-old. The book is 55 years old. But my question asked how old Holden is, not the book. And thanks! I'm reading the book now!
