    		I know Floyd, the barber had a wife named Melba...Deceased. I don't recall ever hearing Andy's wifes name.

    		I read everything I could find, and still haven't seen a mention of Andy's wife, by name.

    		From All Experts:

    There is absolutely no information from the show regarding Andy's first wife. We are led to believe she died, but the only time Opie and Andy actually discuss her is during an episode where Andy is trying to explain "love" to Opie. Saying that when you marry you have that deep down special feeling. Opie asks, "Did you have that feeling for Mom?" and Andy says, "Yes son, I did." That is it.

    I saw an interview with Andy Griffith once where this question came up-- Andy said they felt it was better to just not deal with it... they didn't want Andy's character to have a sad or negative history to drag with him.
