Yes there were Ancient and Prehistoric SOCIETYS of Cave Dwellers but they WERE Societal and dragging by hair is not Societal. So I will conclude by referring to my original post. Artistic Stereotype.
And here is THE proof.

An interesting exploration of this very question.

The ‘cultural myth of the mating behavior of cavemen’ is first referred to in the 19th century in Prehistoric fiction - adventure stories set in the remotest human past. There is a gradual move towards this myth and it appears that it was in the 1920s that it become widely used to describe the general loutish behaviour of men. Later it became more a source of humour appearing particularly in
cartoons. I have been unable to find academic documents of the period speculating on human mating habits in prehistory.
I would like to refer you to this excellent site on the literary genre of Prehistoric fiction.

This brings to mind the way the decimated tribe of Benjamin kidnapped their wives from a dance, which in turn brought to mind the "rape" of the Sabine women. Here both stories are together on one page. I apologize for 5 links on my previous post.

Then there's Samson, who had a woman knock him to the ground, more or less, and weave his hair into her loom. You can find it in Judges 16:13--I'm not pasting in another link!

McGruff, please add:
Samson at the time had been living in a cave. Jdg. 15:8.
Thanks.

Social customs that leave no physical evidence are impossible to prove/disprove. In the absence of any so far discovered cave paintings of this practice, the verdict must be the Scottish Not Proven. Evidence from cartoons is inadmissible unless the cartoon can be shown to date from the period in question. Even then, it is dubious evidence, as witness the depictions of fully dressed missionaries sitting upright in large pots over fires whose flames are not those of a cooking fire....
