You'd really have to look long and hard to top the Star-nosed Mole (Condylura cristata) and/or the blob fish (Psychrolutes marcidus). Mighty strange looking creatures...those two! Reply #3. May 18 09, 10:39 PM |

My vote is for the nautilus. It looks very cool when its image is stylized and used for logos or graphics, but if you check out photos of it in nature, it's extremely gross, very weird, and apparently pretty vicious. Reply #6. May 21 09, 6:51 PM |

I would say the Mimic Octopus. There are a few videos of them floating around the interweb, and I've never seen anything like it. It uses its legs to take the shape of various other sea creatures like snakes and crabs, to scare away its predators by making them think that they are actually attacking something they fear. There are other animals that look a bit wierd but this things behavior is just so unique. Reply #7. May 23 09, 4:19 PM |

Echidnas are pretty odd-looking animals, but I also vote for humans as the wierdest critters on the planet. Human begaviour is so unpredictable and they can be very vicious when roused. Reply #15. Jun 13 09, 10:24 AM |

Another unusual creature that is pretty common here in New Mexico is the vinegarone, vinagaroon, or whip scorpion. They will squirt a chemical concoction, I believe actually contains acetic acid, from the base of it's tail. Regardless it's very strong smelling. http://www.nem5.com/photos/vinegarone.html Reply #17. Jul 15 09, 4:01 PM |

Darn it! Every time I came up with an idea, somebody else has taken it. All I can think of now is the extinct trilobite. Do extinct animals count? Reply #19. Aug 16 09, 8:47 AM |
