If you have ever seen "Meet the Parents" you will know why I hate dogs and love cats. Not to mention, dogs don't bathe themselves.

Anton, of course dogs bathe themselves, I used to have a dog which used to jump into the water troughs at my stables lol.

That is called swimming, not bathing.

Not when the dog has just been chasing ducks in the smelly dykes, I'd say it's definately bathing lol.

Dogs are great but cats can take care of themselves. What I like most is the fact that they don't need help getting to the restroom and eat the furniture.

I have an understanding with God. I forgive Him for creating cats!

I pick cats way over dogs. I agree with AntonLaVey. Cats bath themselves and dogs don't. I have had my cat for 13 years and never bathed it. My cat has never stinks. I watched my friends dog for 2 weeks and was always giving it a bath. It just smelled bad all the time. Plus cats take care of themeselves. My cat comes around when it wants to be pet.

I like both, but I found cats are the best pets for me. I had a dog one time and loved him, but a dog is like having a child they kind of tie you down unless you have someone to care for him or her, when you are away. Cats are independant and I can go shopping etc., and they are fine,by themselves for short periods also nobody in my family would be willing to walk a dog and that would be a problem, I would be the official dog walker and I honestly don't have the time. I am also a Leo maybe thats the reason too.

Cats.
I dislike the smell, the slobber and the neediness of the average dog.
Not to mention the excessive noise and the teeth.

out of a cat or a dog i would want a dog because you can play with them and cats i think are just lazy because they don't move a lot or they don't play around with you and i've had some bad expirences with my cat!

Both my husband and I are into animal rescue and have provided a home for both dogs and cats and even guinea pigs for a large number of years. Most have either been abandoned, or their owners passed on, and they needed a home. If you approach the matter intelligently you will find that dogs and cats can live in harmony. Case in point, our present dog had no experience whatsoever of cats when we agreed to take her on, she was 8 years old and came into a household with 7 cats. There wasn't even a hiccup - no problems whatsoever. I think a lot depends on the breed of the dog and what it history is....Mommakat

ALV - put your fingers in your ears and look away now, because you're going to hate what I'm about to say: I agree with you.

OK, you can come back now. I had cats - between one and four - for nine years. Most of them were OK and one was like people. I was down to one a year ago, got it re-homed, and don't miss it one bit. I feel exactly the same way about dogs as Jabberwok does.

If I am asked to donate to a care charity looking after people or animals, the people one will get my support over the animal one, every time.

I like both but agree, cats are less of a tie. Having said that, my kids and I are still trying to persuade OH that we need to rehome a greyhound. We get our charity/dogwalking fix by visiting a greyhound rehoming centre and walking the dogs there.
