Can you hear the coyotes howling at night? Do you like it or not or what?

The only coyote I've ever seen was in the national park, 50 miles away. There's tons of foxes in town but they don't make any noise.

Yes, I live in the country and they are around pretty often since I, and my neighbors, have chickens and other animals. I don't like the howling. Between the coyotes and a beautiful red fox that shows up early in the morning and about dusk, they have just about cleaned out my neighbors chickens that run loose.

Funny to see this, at this time! Today at 10:15AM, there was a Coyote trotting down the street in front of my office. He (or she,) was young, and since there wasn't much traffic yet, everyone was giving him a lot of space. Glad to see that, because we've taken more than our share of the wildlife area!

I have never heard one before. At least not that I know of. Maybe I have and I just thought it was a dog.

Amanda, I don't think you would mistake a coyote for a dog if you heard one. I have been out fishing on several occasions when the surrounding mesquite bushes just erupt with the deafening yipping and howling. They will get really close if they think you can't see them. My little boy just gets the biggest kick out of that, his eyes get huge and he won't say a word until they quiet down. I remember as a kid leaving my bedroom window open at night and falling to sleep to the sound of coyotes on the other side of the Rio Grande, which was about seventy feet from our house.

Well where I live there are know coyotes, but I here dogs barking now and then and the garbage men picking up. I guess wherever you live you have to put up with something. Oh just an after thought they are building a light rail system where I live, so soon I will be hearing train whistles. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm

I hear them once in a while, and it doesn't bother me. Saw one one day on the way to work - crossing the road toward the mall.

Well it happened. I have three Chihuahuas that spend most of their time wrapped up in their covers in their little doghouse on the front porch. Three days ago we missed Selena. We tried calling her for hours. We live a long ways off of the road but we checked to see if she had made it to the road and got ran over. We looked everywhere. My husband was sitting on the front porch in the glider this morning and noticed some buzzards down by the neighbors fence, about an eighth of a mile away. He walked down there and couldn't see anything. The buzzards kept feeding on something so he went down there again and found her. The coyotes have been around here every night and I am sure they caught her and took her down there. We had another dog killed but not eaten by a coyote about 18 years ago but I sure wasn't expecting something like this to happen. I am just sick about it. We have a big kennel that we used to keep them in but they love being outside. I guess we will have to put the other two back in the kennel at night and let them out during the day.

I don't hear them. But the creepiest part is that there were coyotes living in this empty lot about 50 feet from our house!

So sorry to hear about your dog, honeybee. I hate coyotes. Vicious animals. Two weeks ago our english setter took off, and we did not find her till morning. Thank God she did not run into the coyotes. She will not be going bird hunting again lol until she is less impulsive. She is such a sweetheart, I shuddered at the thought of coyotes getting her.
