According to those nuts on the Yahoo pages, the umpires beat the Rangers. Yes, it was the umps who were the reason the Rangers gave up 16 or whatever in game 3, it was the umps who made the Rangers choke away game 6, and it was the umpires who are responsible for the Rangers not hitting and the Rangers hitting a batter with the bases loaded in game 7. A valiant effort by the Cards, and you're right on that, Anton, the umps didn't hit that batter, nor some of those others, but they did make some bad calls against them. Reply #64. Oct 28 11, 9:43 PM |

There are bad calls in nearly every game that is played. Being a former catcher, I know this all too well. It's just that they become magnified because this is the World Series. Reply #65. Oct 28 11, 9:54 PM |

Congrats to the Cards, of course, but I really hoped the Rangers would pull it out for Nolan. Reply #67. Oct 28 11, 10:52 PM |

daver nailed it...no matter who you were rooting for it was a riveting battle. it's certainly in the discussion about "the best World Series ever played" (not the most well played , but most exciting) As a fan there is nothing like a game 7, last night's being the first one since 2002-I'd say we got our money's worth. Proud to be a Cardinal fan right now. Skimming some of this umpire talk is purely ridiculous. Seemed like Holland was getting some extremely generous pitches, but I can think of a few Carp got last night. It went both ways and seemed balanced. Reply #69. Oct 29 11, 8:37 AM |

DIALING FOR DOLLARS Here's a scenario I can forsee: Site:somewhere in Texas Backround noise:telephone ringing Conversation:"Nolan Ryan's office , whom may I say is calling"? Response:"please tell him it's C.C. Sabathia" Response"just one moment please" Response:"Hi C.C., whatever you want ,you got it"! Reply #70. Oct 29 11, 7:35 PM |

Paul, you're close about that scenario. Except it's really set in New York, and it's C.J. Wilson calling for Brian Cashman Reply #72. Nov 24 11, 1:53 AM |

I don't believe the Yankees are going to go (hard) after Wilson after the post season he had...if his price has dropped ,they might, but his Fall Follies cost him millions. Reply #73. Dec 06 11, 9:02 PM |
